Go for it man, give it your all and remember to have fun along the way. Most people here never seem to share their own music, so take that with a grain of salt too.

Oh, and this:

Sorry simmerdown, didn't know about that one.

Probably for the best...
Lol oh boy one of these guys please link me to some of your tracks I'm curious to to see how your theory holds up in your case
Apologies if you took my thoughts on talent personally yeaokwali. It wasn't directed at you as such, more at the pervading tone on this forum that time and effort and a will to succeed results in great music. It doesn't always. It hasn't worked for me, that's for sure. Raw talent is the missing link in my case. But, as Simmerdown pointed out, this should be talked about elsewhere.

I hope the time and effort works for you in bringing out your talent. More great music = win/win situation for all of us.

As for my own lack of talent, I don't bandy my music around on forums generally but if you want to continue with the 'zing/he had it coming' thing, here's some ammunition for you.

Ah well in that case, my apologies as well. I assumed you were purposely trying to be an ass. Well if I turn out anything like my brother then it will = win/win. Zing retracted lol.

No worries. Interesting, the nature/nurture thing.

My brother was a champion sprinter and runs a successful company constructing bespoke wooden buildings.
I got the school record for the slowest ever lap of the track on sports day, and I can barely put a shelf up.

I'm genuinely curious now - apart from being a music lover (aren't we all?) and having a talented brother, what have you done about being a producer so far? Any demos so we can give some more concrete advice on how to make your stuff sound like the examples you linked? Or at least a pat on the back that you share the family X Factor gene?

No demos atm I wish I could post something up lol. I actually didn't just start technically. I just sort of always dabbled, but after being introduced to that guys music I decided to get serious. Interestingly enough I actually got my brother involved in music. Introduced him to DAW's, and other types of music. Recommended he pick up ableton, and he even ended up taking classes at the dubspot. We started on the same level, and were suppose to produce together, but my instant gratification syndrome saw me showing up in the studio less, and less. Anyway I'm tired of being a mediocre "genius". End rant lol.

+ inspiration.

And I wouldn't say you need to learn a lot of composition, arrangement and production to do what XXYYXX does. It's throwing some standard beats and preset sounds together, though it is very inspired, catchy and clever.

Download some beats from the web, get some synth-vsts with a big preset library, then do whatever inspires you and throw it together. Finish 150 tracks in a week, then publish the best 10 of them.
