I've been down this road, it sucks. Starting from scratch may sound like a tedious affair, AND it IS! The good news is once you have done it, things become much easier.

NOW is the time to organize your samples.
NOW is the time to build custom Samplers you can save AND rework with ease over time.
NOW is the time to put the work in so you make your future much easier.

If it makes you feel any better I have been working on my DrumRack for 3 years.
HOWEVER, for the last year it has been minor tweaks.
I pretty much wasted 2 years trying to find workarounds and not organizing my samples, looking for the easy way out instead of buckling down and making a hard effort.

The result IS worth it!

One of the things I did to lighten the load, was start with my Kick rack. Work it test it, try things, analyze it, mole it over, try EVERYTHING.
Once you feel like you are somewhat settled SAVE IT
Then save it again and call it SNARES, hotswap the samples from your organized "best of" hits.
Reapeat for Hats,
reapeat for Toms
etc etc

I have gone through my "best of hits" countless times in the browser, each time wittleing them down to perfection. Whats funny is in the end, I always use 1 of 5 snares, nowhere near 128.
