If you can get a good price on it, you can always sell it for little loss if you don't get on with it. That's basically what I did.

Same here. I sold both my Mikro and big Maschine for just about what I paid for them.

The idea/concept is nice but the execution/implementation of it is overly burdensome and replicates/duplicates just about everything you can do in Ableton.

Moreover, I'm not a finger drummer and have no plans to become one. In other words, I don't play my beats with my fingers. It's really not a hassle to double click a kick drum in on the beat, a hat on the off beat, and a clap and snare on the 2 and 4.

I'm pretty impressed with Live's drum racks and Geist

A long time ago someone said don't believe the hype. After having spent a few hundred dollars, I believe them now and have no problem offering the same advice to you.

I have it, it's fun when it works with Live. it seems a bit buggy with Live though... Seems Live, Reaktor, and Maschine have problems playing together or maybe it's just my system.
watch this pyramind video it shows "STIMMING" using it with his own sounds just for drums in Live for live performance for minimal techno or whatever it is.. interesting. but: warning he is a total douche.

It's muuuuch quicker to do all that with the mouse. It's "cooler" to do it with hardware though.

Honestly I don't think so. Last time I tried to manage micro samples in a drum rack at a friend place, we just gave up. That was simply a nightmare.

Using the hardware of maschine, after a moment you get use to it and your hands do the job without thinking about it. Probably same with the mouse , but the mouse requires lots of small movements especially in the drum racks.

I have to agree with timothyallan. It was a cold day when I came to the realization that I was doing things twice as fast with the mouse than I was with the controller.

The Maschine really is a novel idea, but the reality is you get further quicker with the mouse. But then, we probably make and enjoy different music. It doesn't take rocket science or intricate finger drumming to make the kinds of music I like, house and techno.

To the OP, I would say buy one used if you can find one. Try it for a couple months, if it doesn't fit into your system sell it and say you had one. No harm, no foul.

TBH what my music needs more than anything is more time to do it and more inspiration when I do, rather than more hardware, I know that's true.

Second-hand market doesn't exist near me and I can't be bothered with international shipping. As I wrote before, I can pick it up new for the equivalent of $399, so it is tempting but ultimately I think, not tempting enough.

From what ive read of user reports since when it was released and up to now, it seems it depends a bit on what music style you do. Hip hopers, DnB, Dubstep, etc seems to love it. While 4x4 House, Techno, Trance producers in general dont. I havent heard much from users of the styles of jazz, experimental or rock, or other.

Ps. I have not even touched it, but ive seen loads of vids and read most of the reviews about it.

Curious, does anyone think Ableton will come out with a Maschine like controller for Live? i.e. something a little more robust than the APC40
