Good suggestions! Step input would be much better this way, and play cursor note on would make way more sense.

Some DAWs have the option worded as "Play cut-off notes". This seems to come up a lot in my projects, so +111

+1 for long note chasing.
I wonder what others might have used to work around this lack... alternate note generators? (other than using the built-in MIDI editor... a custom plugin which remembers the last MIDI note sent through it and re-sends that note when it detects playback has be restarted but doesn't see the new note-on event? Is this even possible in the plugin protocol?

Actually I tested awhile ago to split a note where the loop starts using M4L. It works, just forgot about it.
So, before you would have a note that starts before the loop start but ends after the loop start. the M4L command creates 2 notes to replace the old one. One that starts at the original note beginning before the loop start but ends at the loop start and then the one that starts at the loop start and ends at the original note end. This way the notes will play at the loop start.

I'd like this as well, but the work around is easy enough for now - jump back to start of note then quickly shuttle to where you want to listen from. With a good jog wheel or similar it's super fast once you get the hang of it.
I use the touch strip on my Alphatrack and it's perfect but should be easy enough to implement something similar on any midi controller encoder. You want buttons to jump between locators and variable scrubbing speed and then it's just muscle memory - invaluable in general to be able to jump around your timeline without mouse clicking, so very much recommended either way not just for this.

Tired of freezing / unfreezing some tracks every 5 minutes.

Btw working around this is even simpler/faster than my earlier suggestion. Drop a locator where you want to play from, jump back to earlier locator at beginning of note, jump forward. Could easily be scripted to it's all done from just one button press, including adding and cleaning up the play-position locator.
