I love browsing the forums, and have since I bought Ableton almost a year ago. But yeah, the general negativity around here sometimes is sad/ridiculous.

This post reminds me of when my uncle told me that muti-tracking was cheating. Technology makes things obsolete, even musical talent. Dont worry musicianship isnt going away. But you might as well use the technology to your advantage. Look at us, a bunch of muti-tracking cheaters.

I know a guy who did this 20 years ago. He had a degree in composition and did a scored music for farts. He sampled them and arranged them. It was called Poopdaddy.

Cheating device or Teaching device? I'm hoping the Audio to Midi capture is going to help me with song progression, chuck in a ditty from a track, maybe even one I've written and etract the note, scale and song progression. I want it to help me add to my musicianship.

This is my hope too. Im quite happy in how I can build up a x bar loop layering drums and various instruments and effects but just simply find it difficult to progress that on to a fresh part (say a chorus to verse). Will concede that the music looping in the background is an inhibitor but I find I can hum how to progress a tune when away from the computer so if audio-to-midi will allow me to work in this fashion I think it could go some way in really helping me finish tracks faster.

A lot of my ideas come when sitting bored at work or commuting. Might sound a bit bonkers but I honestly can see myself sloping off to the bogs to record a hum (vocal hum, not a smelly hum... ) on my phone and then to drop it in to Live when home. Of course, making a big assumption on the usabilty of this function but if it works like how the clips indicate then it will be a lot of fun.
