It doesn't matter, even if the dry out put of the master buss on any given daw ads or subtracts what ever. The resulting master will equal the sum of the out put going through effects chain.[/quote]

I would like to see some type of dithering option in live, but this can be accomplished using 3rd party plugins

mastering is the process of preparing the final file used to make the glass master used in replication. Although at the high end, specialized digital tape and file formats are used, a properly formatted CDR can serve as a replication master.

Ummmmm NONE - Going by the thread title.
Live doesn't "make" anything last time I
checked.
Muso's / Artists / DJ's do though  .

so you're looking only for vinyl?

The mastering for vinyl thing refers to being able to keep the cutting gizmo from busting to far up, down, right or left by controlling levels, right? And you are attempting to ensure that this can be done with suitable quality from a master produced by Live (perhaps in CDR format).

Why wouldn't it? The noise floor should be low enough, and compression/ limiting woule ensure strict levels.

I'm working on some mastering right now, I know doing your own is not advised, and it's looking more and more like the next time I do this I will pay someone, but I'm trying to do as much as possible DIY, as kind of a challenge.

What I've done is load my tracks into a single set (about 70 mins worth) in arrangment view. Warping is all off so they keep their own time, and the global time setting in the set is more or less arbitrarily set.

For each (stereo) track, I might have no effects or some slight EQ, gain boost or other less intrusive effect. On the master output, I've got a pre gain utility, multiband compressor, eq, warmer, limiter and post gain utility in that order. I turn the master output on for only the track I'm working with, as I go thru the tracks in session mode. (My skill is maybe questionable, but I think my process is reasonable). After going across the board, I acheive reasonably uniform levels, mostly adjusting the multiband for each track.

ahh and there was me thinking i was going to see a long list of records made in live !!!
first time i heard live my friend was in his studio - he had put all his old releases onto live and added some general loops to notch it up to 2005, i thought it all sounded better than the originals - hence maybe people can write whole tracks in there and get it pressed to vinyl.

im still sure some people have, maybe some dont want to admit it if the results werent to good. pity would be nice if it did work.
god i'm cool and u r not

Trent Reznor stated in a recent interview that one of the songs on With Teeth was composed in ProTools but arranged in Live. He said that he was having issues with the arrangement, so he loaded all of the tracks into Live to experiment. I don't know if the final mix was acheived in Live however.

Personally I've taken to arranging and remixing in Live, but nothing from the ground up.

Heard that Heiko Laux mixed the new Kanzleramt sampler entirely in Live 4. Only mixing though, no production I guess. My future tracks due for release are made entirely in Live 4, however I do use Wavelab for extra mastering and burning.

Cheers
