Actually I see LIVE. Interesting.. I loved minimalism in graphic design school.
Left square: I = L, l = i, ll = V, and right square is an E

I kinda agree with the OP. I liked the old logo better. The new one doesnt look modern to me, it looks like something I would have seen on the internet ten years ago. It is harsh and too minimal. Im not to crazy about the bandaid color for the forum either. But whatever, Its really not a dealbreaker.
Looking forward to v9 and push though...yay!

^ Yeah, it was pointed out earlier too, and for a sizeable and reputable music software company, that's just embarrassing.

I don't mind the new symbol, but I'm glad they changed up the font colors... oh my god that sucked...
Also, I don't like that they made the iPhone symbol white. (the bookmark) I liked it black, it fit well on my icon positions.
I actually don't mind the new colors on the boards, it's soothing and professional.

is it possible that the older E-MU symbols are an "E" and an "M" and that maybe even happen to have a "U" incorporated into the vertical lines?
nah... conspiracy theory dictates we should explore other more diabolical implications.

those blue dots are anomalies from blowing it up and upping the contrast...i see grey area appearing at the ends of the bars, plus my eyes just start wiggling all over the place, a lagal hiah, lol
