if the sound isnt totally unique and irreplaceable, find another dry sample similar to it and just replace it.

easiest way :)

sorry man i haven't the energy to debate with you on every little technical thing i say.

i didn't say that de-essing would be the end all be all. just that it can help.
removing reverb is like data recovery... often it takes multiple little 'tricks' to get the job done. De Essing isn't hugely powerful but it can help the cause if used carefully.. using it in combination with removing the stereo field (utility), and careful EQing can be fruitful, or it can be useless. depends on the situation.

forgive me for not going into depth anymore than that... just tired...
I only debate because I'm interested to hear peoples reasoning so I can learn more myself. I'm not trying to prove you wrong or sound more knowledgeable or anything like that. I also like to think that my posts will help to dispell ignorance and myth, even if I'm in the wrong at the end of it.

I'm actually disappointed that you couldn't elaborate more on the theory behind what you said, but I can understand how it can be tiring typing out long technical posts. I get off on that kind of stuff I guess, call me a nerd.

I hope I don't get a reputation as a jerk here, but I am the type that will correct someone if I see something that doesn't make sense to me. I think it's almost more important than providing my own advice at times because a newbie will have no idea who to believe if he/she gets 100 pieces of advice and no one saying "that piece of advice is wrong IMO".

Anyway, I know there will always be people who don't take kindly to being corrected (not that you are one of them AdamJay) so I guess I can't be liked by everyone. I guess I'm willing to risk pissing someone off to teach someone else something or to learn something myself.

Sorry i couldn't elaborate more,, i was seriously just tired that night.
and i dont think you're a jerk, and i don't mind debating with you
just caught me on a bad night. sorry if i came across with any attitude or anything.

Basically, a stereo de-esser, in the right conditions can help.
its not going to de-reverberize anything on its own. but combined with an EQ, or the Utility plug, it can help to narrow in on the sound you want rather than the FX. Its difficult, the way most folks use a De-Esser they will hear the reverb get worse rather than better.

What i should have mentioned before when i said it "can help" is that if you use it AFTER utility and some EQing, it can tighten up the sound you've de-reverberized already and possibly further de-reverberize or at least accent some of the transients in the sound which will disguise the reverb. Since has very few transients, something like a De-Esser or a Transient Expander such as Waves TransX can help you hear the attack of sounds more than the release (or reverb) of sounds. Its all camouflage really.

yep, had i just said that maybe we could have avoided the whole debate thing ... hehe, sorry.
