Unless they work some serious magic behind the scenes to make it sound incredible, I don't expect it to replace DIVA for me any time soon

I just got Komplete 8 in December - anybody know now NI is for offering upgrade rebates/discounts for late-starters with the current version of their stuff?
Just wait till summer, they almost always run a half off upgrades sale. Timing depends on which upgrades they are doing though. Last spring they did a great upgrade deal for everyone who owned kontakt/reaktor/few others where you got a great deal moving to komplete. Then I believe later in the summer they had a deal for upgrades for previous komplete owners

With NI it definitely pays to wait 6mo

Nah, not for upgrading from one version Komplete to another. That price generally always stays the same. Even now the upgrade from K7 to K8 is the same as it's always been.

But they do do deals on individual products and cross grades...

No integration between Battery and Maschine? Rubbish!

One of Maschines weak points is layering of drums - you can do it, but you can't individually process/EQ/etc each layer - which is obviously not optimal.

I can't believe they missed this opportunity!

As a Komplete 8 owner, this is an underwhelming update. If they ever have a big sale on the upgrade price I might do it just for the Battery update, but otherwise I'm waiting for 10. I could care less about Monarch (and it appears to be a reactor patch rather than its own VST), and there's not much else added besides that.

Have to agree, all in all a pretty weak upgrade. The inclusion of an analog emulation has been overdue ever since they dropped Pro53, and Battery was the obvious choice for upgrading. I'm a little surprised they didn't have a Massive upgrade in there though.

The price is pretty sweet though, at $149 to go from 6 to 8 if I wasn't looking at other expenses coming up I would think about it pretty heavily.

The fact that they're taking another sort of half assed approach to tag based browsing is pretty lame though, they had a pretty good system with the Kore structure, then there's Maschines approach and now another... seems like too much voting by committee and not enough logical follow through to me.

I'll probably buy in to the $150 upgrade for Battery 4 and the effects plugs, though truthfully, after tinkering with Live's compressors, reverbs, et cetera, they're very good.

A good VA has indeed been a weak spot in Komplete since losing Pro-53 however Monark is only monophonic (who does that in software?) and it's yet another Reaktor ensemble. I get that it's cool to push Reaktor to it's limit and exploit it to it's potential, but only releasing new synths as Reaktor ensembles seems lazy to me.

This is the first time that the main product additions/upgrades in a new Komplete have had absolutely not intrigued me in the slightest. I wouldn't even consider upgrading to V9 standard even though the price seems reasonable for what you get. Ironically however there are many things in Ultimate I've been wanting like Damage, Evolve, the new reverbs and a bunch of other stuff so I think I'll be shifting to ultimate soon...

I love the fact that Monark is being sold as a Reaktor ensemble! seriously.

It's my understanding that even though it is another Moog clone, it is one made with some of those fancy zero delay feedback filters I keep hearing about.

So NI is going to give me some of that sweet Moog filter action in an ensemble I can open up and play with? I'm cool with that.

Looking at the differences between regular 9 and Ultimate I already have a bunch of the expansions that I bought individually that are included in Ultimate but not in the regular version. The few that I don’t have that I might be interested in doesn’t justify the upgrade price to Ultimate ($649, WTF?) or the giant chunk of drive space it would take.

$149 upgrade for the regular version seems like a steal, especially coming from version 6 (or 5?) that I'm on.

I kind of see Komplete like Apple products, mostly underwhelming if you're planning to grab every new release. Skip a version or 2 and you'll probably be impressed.

@glitchrock yeah it's somewhat puzzling that Monark is coming out as monophonic, but a good VA is a processor pig, and Reaktor also has an overhead cost. IMO not surprisingly is Diva is a better deal if you're mainly looking at K9 for Monarch. Mostly I'm thinking about the upgrade at all because K8 had Guitar Rig and Kontakt upgrades which I'm missing still bing on K6. Absynth Kontakt and Guitar Rig are the essentials in Komplete to me.
