no that's still possible via tap tempo. it'd only be a problem if you got the drum to record a midiclip and then worked out the tempo from that.beatz01 wrote:Does that mean that in a live situation i can't have the drummer command Live's tempo via bassdrum trigger to midi ? And even more, Live won't adjust its tempo to what the drummer is playing ?

Drums, keys whatever you decided to play.oddstep wrote:no that's still possible via tap tempo. it'd only be a problem if you got the drum to record a midiclip and then worked out the tempo from that.beatz01 wrote:Does that mean that in a live situation i can't have the drummer command Live's tempo via bassdrum trigger to midi ? It just kills one unique and original way of syncing ableton to your playing. Probably a lot of people didn't used this function I haven't seen any tutorials about this thing, i've found this function intuitively that's why i love ableton. Now it's gone.
I want ableton to sync to my playing, not the other way around!
Re: Live 9 no more can't be synced to midi tempo you've played?!
Indeed. Live 9 is the first version I have worked with that routinely makes my prior workflows impossible.
Re: Live 9 no more can't be synced to midi tempo you've played?!
I'm really curious now about live-adjusting the tempo of a set, in "real-time." (In Live 8 and earlier, of course.) Would one of you who sync tempo this way be willing to describe how/why you do this? I'm very intrigued!

I don't get it..
anyways..
I'm sad that they dropped it.. quite a useful box...although potentially confusing
I think basically.. recording without a click..
then using the 'midi stretch' feature.. you can adjust until it fits the grid..
then adjust global bpm...
not that much of a hassle..

3dot:
In some cases it may not be very important to get it exactly, but in other cases...
- When I import clips (midi clips with instruments and notes) in live I can see their tempo. You only can drag them as first clip in a new project so that lives master tempo adjust to this clip (which is kind of frustration)
- The exact original tempo is important sometimes... when using chopped samples even a tiny change in the tempo destroys the played information, because the sample self has a fixed duration compared to the midi information. You get gaps between them or it just destroys the feeling from your free played samples because of the
changed note durations.
That's the point, how to get exactly the bpm value you have played? That was very easy to see when you adjust the MIDI bpm setting. Now it's very complicated and only possible with workarounds.I think basically.. recording without a click..

Re: Live 9 no more can't be synced to midi tempo you've played?!
did that really work? i always thought it just said 120bpm or the global tempo and not really show you the tempo of the notes you recorded. or am i getting something wrong here?
Re: Live 9 no more can't be synced to midi tempo you've played?!
Can't you juste route the midi channel to an audiotrack and Live will sync then to that audiotrack ?
