Some cpu spikes if the set has been open for a while. But my biggest problem is the fans crazyness, even on light sets. There's definitely something going wrong.
OSX 6.8, Live 9.0.3, with only native devices.

I started a topic in the 9.0 Beta forum. It would be helpful if all of you would join in, thanks.

I'm definitely starting to see some issues. After recording and overdubbing a beat effected with glitch a few times I got up to 40 percent usage after I deleted all instances of glitch and was down to just using the recorded audio and an instance of operator. Hopefully when I reopen the project it'll be down again but there seems to be no reason that 1 instance of operator and two two minute dry audio tracks should be using this much of Live's power. This is on a late 2012 Macbook Pro with 8 gigs of Ram, 2.9 ghrz quadcore.

Yup same here. Please head on over to the Beta forum thread and post there. It appears Ableton is listening. Thanks.

Why beta? Isn't it a released software?

Because
a) Ableton is listening better there.
b) you should first check the latest beta - if it's fixed in the Beta there is
no longer need to complain. If it is still present in the latest Beta...well,
post it in the Beta forum.

chrissobo13 wrote:I also encounter a lot of CPU spikes, pretty much always 5 minutes into using Ableton. They don't always seem dependent on what's happening in live. I can run through the same parts and not go above 35% usage, but sooner or later it will always spike into 120%+ and cause stuttering. I can stop all clips while the session is still playing, and the spike will not go down like I feel it should (it should go down if clips stop and effects are off, right?).
Exactly the same stuff I have been experiencing with 9.0.2 at least. Had to quit one live performance because of that.
Have you tried that with 9.0.1? I have a registered version as 9.0.2, but I got the demo version, which is 9.0.1 for now, just to compare, and I think it doesn't behave as bad...but to be honest, I haven't played with it for very long.
EDIT: Uh-oh, 9.0.1 does it too.

I'm having these issues as well! Extremely frustrating. I have live performances coming up and I'm starting to consider other options if Live can't be stabilized.

every time i hit the stop button the cpu load doubles ...
and if i scroll around in chrome while i have ableton running the whole thing just glitches out my firewire audiofire 2 soundcard ...
altering buffer size does not help ... though it does seem to be more stable if i use my macbook pro's internal card...
live 8 never did this i'm sure
It's alive

Let's make this thread alive again as I am still enduring insane hectic CPU peaks even on the simplest projects and we are now in march 2014 and no beta did fix it yet.

I have the same issue on a brand new pc with Win 7 pro 64 SP1.
I had no issue with my old PC running on win xp SP3.
A few hints that may help:
I removed the intel speedstep that automatically adjusts the cpu frequency in the bios based on cpu activity (not sur how to do that on a mac)
Running the 64 bit version of live on a 64 bit OS seems to give slightly better cpu usage
You can also try to de activate hyperthreading (did not work for me).
hope that helps

Thanks Moog 3003. I think I have tried everything possible (from reinstalling, raising the samples to the max, to removing all external plugins - just using the max convolution reverb is sucking up 50 % of the cpu).
It is just hectic and unpredictable. Sometimes it peaks and crackles, sometimes not. The CPU load is rising up suddenly for no obvious reasons - and I am talking about 2 or 3 tracks. Never had such issues with Live 8.
FYI I am on a Retina Macbook Pro 2013 / Maverick / 8 gigs of Ram / Apogee Duet working 24/48 (but the result is the same with the built-in speakers).
It might sound stupid but I suspect it could be related to the graphical card. Running Live full screen seems to stress the CPU less than in window mode.
Sorry to say it but Reason 7 and Logic X are running perfectly fine even with dozens of tracks. So an educated guess would say Live is the faulty one here. And God knows I love Live.

Has anyone seen an improvement with this in 9.1.3 beta? My fans still ramp up over time (even doing small things, like recording one track of bass station 2 synth via my audio interface), but it takes longer.
I am running Live on a 2011 Macbook Air i7, with 4GB ram, audio interface is Komplete 6. Display is a large Thunderbolt display, which I too believe may be contributing to the issue, as less cpu is used running on the laptop's own screen.
I just bought Logic X, and the comparative quietness of using that brought the issue back home to me. Come on Ableton, I love my push and want to use your software!
