I have 8 gb RAM but I'm still using 32. I'm just waiting for 64 to become solid. I don't have many problems with 32 anyway.

Cubase does this. i went bananas trying to figure out why my 64 bit installer installed a 32 bit version (splash screen said 32 bit)... i finally had to email support. something that easy to toggle back and forth is probably the most straight forward and simple to use feature of the whole program.. but finding it...
still, at least it was there.

Have any of you ever run out of ram in 32 bit mode?

Also why would you want the 32bit version if you have the 64 up and running out of necessity?

I currently have a 32 bit only macbook pro from 5 years ago. My desktop is 64 bit compatible, running Digital Performer 8 I've ran out of RAM when I used the 32 bit version running string libraries. So, in order to use DP8 64 bit to orchestrate with Live rewired into it they both must be 64 bit, in order to maintain backwards compatibility I would like to be able to test a Live Set in Live 32 bit on the desktop previous to importing to the laptop. Basically this inquiry is based on your needs not mine. There's a not so subtle assumption that other people are coming up with reasons to complain when they request or are stunned at a feature that's implemented in a way that's a hindrance to them.
Another example as to why it would be an issue is if you ran a string library in Live 64 using other plug ins that used jBridge to make them 64 bit compatible. When you wanted to perform live you would probably not want to use jBridge'd 32 bit plug ins, I wouldn't want to, so switching to a 32 bit version of Live after printing the strings would make total sense.

I never ran out of RAM until I got a 'pro' string library, after than it can happen very quickly, as anybody using big libraries can tell you.

i have not... nor do i intend to.

i understand where you are going with your line of questioning... and when Live was not a 64 bit application and people demanded it to be i asked similar questions, but it IS a 64 bit application now. so, this a question of implementation.

Late 2007 15" MacBook Pro 2,4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo?

Maybe you're confusing that with the ability to boot the 64-bit kernel?

The early 2008 MBP is the first MBP able to run the 64-bit kernel (NOT needed to run 64-bit apps or plug-ins!!!): http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3770

An intel Mac with a 64-bit processor can run both 32- and 64-bit apps and plug-ins with the 32-bit kernel.


Not that there's much to gain with the max RAM amount of those machines. But machinesworking 64-bit.
