What about changing DB values accurately though?
typing in numbers to change volume isnt exactly a nice way to mix a track.
Ableton?
Anyone?
You can reset it with the backspace key. lower or raise the value with the arrow keys or type in the value.
Or you can control it with midi controllers.
Had any other ways in mind?

Hey Bjorn,
thanks for the info I will try that later
I dont use a controller of any sorts so mixing has to be done with the mouse and those DB jumps are not helping this area. I know I can do this in the arrange page but thats a bit longwinded when in teh heat of the moment mixing.
Seems like a modifier key while dragging the fader should be implemented. Surely ableton cant assume were all using controlers.
Thanks again Bjorn,
Oh, and Ableton, thanks for giving this issue zero interest at all. I guess a accurate volume changes is old fashioned or something

Another way i can think of is mixing with clips.
If you send the tracks you want to fade to 1 audio track in Live. and Create a clip that is empty of sound and automated. You can do a fade in or fade out by triggering a clip.
Cheers

Thanks again Hoffamn, your correct the up and down arrows change the volume but not accurately, its the same as using a mouse.
I realise Live is mostly bandied as a performance tool, But surely Im not the only one writing, recording, and mixing in live.
This is very dissapointing.

another tip (sorry if it is obvious): when adjusting a fader in live, or adjusting any breakpoint in the arranger view, holding shift (or is it ctrl) while left clicking and dragging will put you in fine tuning mode, where it is easy to dial in a .01 increment change it need be. Granted, this has nothing to do with the readout of meters in dB (which is definitely not as far along in Live as in other apps), but might help a few of the people who have posted on this thread.

does finetuning also works with the mouse? i just get it to work with SHIFT + Up/Down-Keys!? (Live 5.0.1 WinXP)

maybe it is ctrl? Not at my music computer now, definitey works on adjusting breakpoints in 2 and 3--will test on 4 later, and will test on the track fader as well. Sorry no 5 here, damn preset and scrubb changes are keeping me away (and the lack of "select on launch

)

Seems that no modifier-key (CTRL/SHIFT/ALT) + mouse works for finetuning knobs/sliders in live 5 here. CTRL+Mouse only works for envelope finetuning ...

sorry for the half-truth, seems the ctrl only does fine tuning when adjusting breakpoints, no knobs or faders, but it could be nice if it did. The only way to more accurately adjust faders would be to use the volume box in the track in the arrangerview not as immediate or sensible as doing adjustments on the fader, but a good way to get precision into the equation...
