Note that CPU of Lenovo's is 20% faster model, GPU of Lenovo's is 25% faster and Quadro model in this comparison.
I can't say anything against your data. Just from my limited personal experience with 3 or 4 different thinkpads/lenovos.. they were never noiseless even under low load (internet). The macbooks pro I know are all dead quite in similar circumstances, but hotter.

Again, does nobody have used such a notebook cooler with a macbook pro? I guess they could work really gread with a aluminium case under heavy load.

I have one of the newer (within the last 6 months) Lenovo w530 Thinkpads and its super quiet. It also doesn't get hot...at all. No matter how hard I push it it handles heat dissipation like a champ. Best computer I've ever owned to be honest.

Please note that plastic computers get just as hot if not more...but you won't feel it because the heat is trapped and only gets out where the fan blows. Macs feel hot because it releases the heat everywhere it can. This actually allows it to push harder. I definitely know how to push a computer to it limits.

i own a Lenovo T500 and i could say the same.
i don't remember ever hearing it... do anything that didn't involve the speakers.

Its not quite that black and white though, design and chipset generation also come into play. Some builds just get hotter than others. Some plastic computers are plenty capable of maintaining a proper internal temperature. If an aluminum body is scorching hot for a long period of time that doesn't necessarily equate with a well maintained internal temperature. If the heat on the outside isn't dissipating at a fast enough rate then...

I have to correct myself.. I misread the data. I fist thought it was the other way round.

idle:
MBPr 29.4 db
W530: 32,4 (quoted: "the fan is always on and audible, even at low load."

Only under full load the MBPr is louder. That's pretty much what experienced over the years, under low load the Macbooks are noiseless, while lenovos are not. I don't say that there are no lenovos which are noiseless, there are too many configs I didn't know. So... again no "true" fact .... just my personal experience.

It seems like apple would have implemented a water cooling system by now. my shit macbook pro gets so hot that it really feels like im being burnt.
I understand this happens because of the metal case but this makes me never want to buy a mac laptop.

Apple is so concerned about looks that they forget about functionality and computing power.

^ it does seem odd to me too that there are not more computers coming from the manufacturer with heat pipes (water/oil cooled). there was a computer at my office with screaming fans because it had a 3.4 Ghz processor that was running super hot. i replaced the fan with heat pipes and not only did it quiet it down (silence), but it appears to have made no impact (unless it was positive) on the life of the computer... that was about 6 years ago and it's still running strong.

Seems like a lot of laptops now have some sort of pipe cooling going on, but you still need other ways of managing the heat. I'd think apples case helps dissipate the heat at lower loads, hence the lower db's, but then kicks up the fan at higher loads to pull it out. Unfortunately by that point your shit is already starting to get hot!
