Latency as a delay of sound nope i have no idea?lol
Re: i want to know if its worth it?
I went through the cycle of thinking about and then buying what I thought I needed to make music before actually making music years ago. Once I got serious and spent hours and hours of time in the studio, I realized I didn't need half the crap I had spent money on. Any set of keys will work for any genre of music, doesn't matter if you are making progressive house or jazz, but buy something that is good and will last. I have an APC40 and a Launchpad and use them sparingly during the composition process. Best advice I can give, as some others have suggested, is start learning Ableton and start trying to make music...you will figure it out as you go what you are missing to improve your workflow. And whatever you do, don't think that buying a particular piece of gear is going to make you a better producer. Gear saves time and makes things possible, but if you don't know what it does or why you have it, you need to take a few steps back and learn more.
Good luck!

Although software recommendations wasn’t asked for, if you’re big into progressive house I would look into NI Massive. Do youtube searches on Massive and prog house or prog house artist you like. You’ll find all kinds of videos showing you how to make the sounds you are most likely looking for. When I’ve done youtube searches for prog house or any current dance music sound production tutorials they are almost always using Massive.
I know that goes against the forum’s “learn what you already have” philosophy, but there are just some tools that will get you what you are looking for faster.

So then why cant i produce progressive with ableton or i can just itll be a hassle?or what can i do to adapt to the fact i already have ableton 8
Re: i want to know if its worth it?
sooner or later you'll go down the same path most of us did years ago. you'll realize that it's because you suck. this will drive you to either quit, amass a stack of gear that you'll couch your ego on or you'll log out and go practice. fake it until you make it.thebreak100 wrote:So then why cant i produce progressive with ableton
another cliche around here is that you have to squeeze out a LOT of turds before you lay a golden turd, a tune you made that you or anyone actually wants to hear start to end.
"pardon me sir, do you know how to get to Carnegie Hall?"
"sure kid, PRACTICE!"
try Tarekith's site for inspirational words on sucking less.
a great way to get to know Live is to grind through the sticky at the top of the 'Tips n Tricks' forum.

Re: i want to know if its worth it?
So let's say you get new gear.
What are you supposed to do with it, to 'make progressive house' ? Is there a trick?
A fundamental for that genre is understanding the structure. If you can do that. You can start with creating something useable, just probably not that great. But it'll be great in the aspect that you'll have accomplished a track. Something to start with.
There are elements, or sounds. And there are types of rhythms that you'll find suit your personal style better than others. Gear won't do anything to get you there..... (Okay, Maschine with a Steve Lawler pack, and Massive included might get you off to a tremendous start), but you have to consciously create things and fix them to your liking. A lot of that requires staring at the screen and editing the shit out of things.
So you'll get some nice loops.
You also need a structure that works to your taste. How will you make your track play well with other tracks in a dj set? How do you give a dj his 'cues' within the track.
You can really start off making a super basic, Generic track, simply as Practice. And you'll be in a better state the next day from the experience you've gained.
And the advice above about Tarekith's site is probably the best free advice you can get
So yeah. Grab some samples, and make a progressive house beat. Like now. And then compare it to stuff you like. Make it now now. Instead of wasting time thinking about it. This moment. Figure out what you know, and need to learn from trial and error.

I’m not sure if I misunderstand you, but Massive is a synth plugin you can use in Live. You can still make progressive house with just Live, although I hope you have Suite. You will be at a disadvantage without the instruments included in Suite.
I’m just saying some people really enjoy building sounds and instruments. Others just want to get straight to the meat of making the song. Massive would help expedite the second method.
Re: i want to know if its worth it?
It seems you're trying to buy multiple controllers to complete your experience rather than learning ableton.
Launchpad and APC40 are great controllers but they basically do the same thing.
-with launchpad you don't get knobs like the APC (although you can get by this in user 2 by midi mapping parameters)
-with APC40 you can't audition drum sounds or play virtual instruments on the controller by way of launchpad's user 1 mode <--this is what made me get the launchpad instead.
*my point is you don't need both launchpad and APC40 bc they're so similar. But you already have them so stick with them you don't need anything else...
As far as the twitch- and let me say I'm not an expert on this one. It seems it also does relatviley similar stuff to the other controllers, WAIT NOW YOU WANT TO KNOW IF YOU SHOULD GET A KEY BOARD?!?!?!
Ok, I'm strongly thinking you're a begininer (which is cool, all power to ya buddy!). The fact of the matter is you're not going to get better at producing music or DJ'ng by buying more and more hardware.
****Don't buy more controllers! Start making clips and learn ableton live. An easy way to start is drag in one of your favorite tracks and start chopping it up. Manipulate clips and start having fun that way. you can worry about getting good with MIDI clips later. Also, whenever you run into a problem, type that problem into youtube and get ready to have your answers answered!!! Hope this helps.

Dude, you can make any genre of music with any controller in ableton. That's like me saying, "What guitar should I buy to make Alternative Rock Music."thebreak100 wrote:What are some good midi controllers for progressive house keyboardwisethebreak100 wrote:Progressive house ty all!!
or what keywords should i look for when im searching?
and as far as audio interface
I hope my responses (and others) helped. The more I read this thread the more I think you may be trolling. haha
Re: i want to know if its worth it?
Ok, my last response was a little harsh.
This may help in your quest to be a progressive house hero...
I get emails from Sounds/to/Sample which is on beat ports website I believe:
http://www.soundstosample.com/info/Kind ... newrelease
I picked up a chill sounds sample pack and now they email me almost every other day. This should be good for you starting out. Download a progessive house sample pack and start playing around with it. When you get better you can start creating your own stuff. Learn, Learn, Learn.

Re: i want to know if its worth it?
I agree sample banks could be a helpful purchase.
Even more helpful would be to buy some books, seriously.
This is a great one if you want to learn some tricks about progressive house music production (I've made a fair amount of it myself). It might look cheesy but it's actually full of really great information specifically about house music production.

This is also a great read/reference for learning all of the parts of dance music production

You might think it's boring but it's probably one of the best investments you could make
