Yes, I was surprised by this too.

I'm using Launchpad Pro myself, and had initially thought to set my own color for Group buttons, to indicate specifically that they ARE Group buttons.
Clips OTOH I wish to color by instrument type (drums, bass, etc.).

Ideally I'd suggest the current behavior become optional while generally allowing the User to apply colors at will to the Group 'clips'.

Also, if the existing right-click command "Assign Track Color to Grouped Tracks and Clips" could be joined by a command ""Assign Track Color to Grouped Tracks Only" that would be quite helpful.

This would be a great option for several reasons.
So far I have used the following way to come by this:
Insert an empty midi track as the first track in the group. Then just double click to ad an empty midi clip and name the clip as you like.
Works for me.
