I used to think like that, but then I listened to a few Superlux models ... I usually use the Beyerdynamic DT-880 Pro or Audio-Technica ATH-M50 when I'm working with cans, but the fact that I can actually discuss the sound of Superlux HD-668B (for example) in the same sentence and compare them at all is pretty remarkable for sub-$40 headphones.

The Superluxes are compatible with AKG-240 velour pads, which I strongly recommend. The overall price is still $50ish if going that route, depending on the model.

Good point. I have had these in my swag at one point for location recording when I needed a real cheap of good "disposables" and they were actually not too bad. The head band is plastic instead of metal and they are a cheap AKG looking knock off but for the $$$ they are not bad. I sold them on to a friend.

I bought Superlux to replace my higher priced AKG's until their warranty repair which took really long time. AKGs are more tight. But when comparing Superlox ones to any under 100$ household names, SL wins mighty. For serious work I turn to AKG but casual music making Superlux is more than worth the price.
