has it occurred to anyone the retardedness of all this hype @ these being "ableton" sets. it reminds me of when FS was first out of embedded linux and becoming a lot more popular... djs were getting billed as "final scratch set". as if previously they were getting billed as "dj'ing.. with records!"
good point. Are bands billed as "a drum kit, 2 guitarists, a bassist, and an egomaniacal singer" ?

how was Kraftwerk ever billed? "Special calculators set!"
or Radiohead, or anyone....

the way i look at it. yer either djing, or you are playing live (not the software, but in realtime)

1st DJ: Do you want to go the cinema tonight?

2nd DJ: Dunno, who's the projectionist?

Yeah, but see without those effects everyone will hear that he just pressed 'play' on a recording that somebody else made! THEN how would he be able to bathe in all the godlike dj glory?

Q: How many DJs does it take to change a light bulb?

A: Dude, there's so much more to it than just changing a lightbulb.

On friday a work collegue came up to me and said "I heard Sasha on radio 1 the other night doing a mix on Ableton live, I was so impressed I downloaded a crack of Live 4.1. WOW! it makes everything soooooo easy doesn't it? Now I understand why you've been banging on about it for so long."

I then went on to explain that Sasha had warped whole tracks of other people's music and was just using two channels and a couple of sends, and that it REALLY is just one step removed from hitting 'play' on Winamp or Itwats (or whatever it's called) And that you could teach a monkey to do it in just under half an hour.

I don't think what i said really sank in though, he wandered off with a glazed look in his eyes, probably wondering what he could rip off his CD player next.

I must admit, I just don't get it, does it say 'sequencing instrument' on the front of the box? I could of sworn i saw that written somewhere.

Yeah nice to see an element of grey in Star Wars 3, when it's always been the classic black and white goodies vs baddies story. Too bad that almost-wise statement from Master Ewan Kanobi is an absolute itself.;)

Not anymore - they dropped that for "Real-Time Music Production" but Sequencing Instrument was a pretty whizz bang nifty term i thought.
