The other thing about 'income' is that you're not going to get consistent payment over time off one album. The closest you can get is to keep pushing it to stay afloat with advertising, word of mouth, videos, shows, etc. Chances are low you would get that '1000' a month for a year. Personally I'd like to think that giving a percentage of sales to a charity would help.

But, you shouldn't let the voices that say 'you can't do it' keep from stopping you. Best way to get experience and learn is to try, fail, try again, etc.

The OP has been a member of this forum since 2005. So it’s not like he’s a complete noob who thinks he’s one wobble away from being the next Skrillex (damn that reference feels dated, but has anybody else made a large commercial impact on EDM recently? ). If nothing else it’s kind of shocking that somebody who has been involved in music for at least 8 years thinks there’s quick big money to be made from music sales.

Did he mention anything about not making an effort? Obviously he's ignorant about it.
And how do you know if the music is good or not or that anyone else won't like it?
You really that invested in keeping him from figuring out for himself? You don't want someone to get experience out of trying?

But ok, I get what you're saying, but who cares? Let him learn.

And beyond 2 posts I'm not all that invested, just quite annoyed.
Considering the things people get pissed off about here in the Lounge, I think I deserve to get annoyed at someone looking for making a quick buck with music, without making an effort to, you know actually MAKE music!

lol guys - it seems that your lack of income has really affected your mood ... peace my friends.. i have been DJ-ing for 10 years and i stopped because i wasn't making enough ..everyone has their standards, i might want $1000 to be happy or $1000000.. thats my problem.. now i am thinking with all this new technology and online distribution it might be worthwhile to make a mixed compilation but you have clearly discouraged me..

Yes Tom, you have every right to get pissed off, and I don't disagree. I encourage it. Get it out of your system. If I was pissed off about it (which anyone would have easily seen before), I would probably sound the same way, but I think I might be declining in long-term pissiness, which is a probably a good thing. Maybe a little less entertaining, so I put up funny gifs.

Tom you are right.. you keep on working on your music because its all about the music and not the money.. and i am the one who is going to make easy money by mixing a compilation of unknown artists, not beyonce or lady gaga or bieber.. in fact I might include your tracks in my compilation too if it makes u more happy..

Your OP did not give enough information about yourself and read exactly like some dude wanting to make Ibiza Dance Classics 234 for easy money. So I may have jumped to conclusions, but your posts certainly didn't help. It's all good, we all need to get by somehow. I appreciate that you stayed civil

Ironically new technology and digital distribution are the main reasons people aren’t making a lot of money on music sales. Too easy for anybody to produce music and release it on “respected” sites, oversaturation of music available, and too easy to steal. Not to mention there are lots of people who are content using services like Pandora and Spotify and not paying for music at all. DJ mixes are also freely available on podcasts and sites like Mixcloud. There's no need to purchase music.

me mixing Ibiza Dance Classics 234 would be a royal joke yeah sorry for not being clear enough - when you are old enough u tend to skip the fine details... as i said I stopped DJ-ing because i wasn't making enough money - and the real reason being that with laptops everyone can be a DJ these days even Paris Hilton.. but I know about quality underground music and if there was a way for people to discover my taste of music and these unknown artists then i think it would be a win-win situation for all.. I understand that my goal is overambitious so i will not continue with this project.

Ah who knows, in this case Shadx's advice was good. I think especially the charity idea could work. But it will certainly require a lot more than just mixing the record. Advertisment is king! Maybe even organize a club night in your town with these artists. Maybe there are even music lovers blogs and forums, where you could introduce youself and the artists.
Getting good artist into the public eye is a worthwhile goal! Go for it! (But don't COUNT on the success!) Good luck
