You
can connect an external keyboard to it, y'know...
yea but... then it's a $600 laptop that won't let you use a USB port, a printer, a CD or DVD, an SD card or any number of other things that someone with an 8 year old PC has come to expect.
i know, i know, removable storage and printing is so passe.

My mum's (she's 71) laptop is about 7 years old and when i visited her last month she asked me to have a look at it as it was really slow. It was slow, barely useable. I figured it was maybe just old and she could do with a new one but i checked the ram and it was only 512mb so i told her what ram was and how it would be a possible fix to get some more and showed her how to install it. We bought 2gb off eBay using my phone and when it arrived she installed it herself. Now it works great and she's well pleased. She only really uses it for the internet and photos anyway.
my dad however (they divorced many years ago) is a different story. I bought him a laptop a few years ago and spent a weekend running him through the absolute basics. It was a weekend of fist chewing frustration and despair. As soon as he opened the laptop lid he seemed to suffer massive cerebral collapse.
i figure computers just aren't for some people.

My mom is also 71. For the longest time she was rocking an old ass white plastic shell iMac. Then she ran into an iPhone syncing issue. It said she had to upgrade her iTunes….
…but first she would have to upgrade to at least Snow Leopard.
…but first she would have to upgrade to at least 2G’s of RAM which you can’t do yourself.
That was too many “but first”s. So she said fuck it and is now rocking a 2012 13” MBP. She’s much happier.
