push 2 will feature a jog wheel and graphic displays and be caled push studio

..and will cost an extra £500

You know, I would actually be happy if Push 2 would simply be the software solution to using two Push independently of each other in the same set! I would start saving up for these extra 500€ (for the second Push) right now!

Hi, I was just going to ask about that?
SO there is no way to preview the sound?

This is contra all logic...As no healthy human being is going to memorise the name and sound of his drum hits (except for a 909 etc)...so why would it not directly change when browsing the sounds? i don't get it...in the software it works like that...it's about what you hear not what you read!

idem for instruments...are we suppose to know that 'Organ23' is the right one so we browse to 'organ 23' and then have to hit 'select'...oh no it was 'organ 24'...browse...Select...too much button pushing not enough fluent creative workflow...kills creativity

or is there a way to directly skip without pushing 'Select'?

(cfr the old 128-selector with 'distribute evenly' on the piano roll...which is not a sexy solution either)

To the 128s, you shouldn't distribute equally on the piano roll (or you lose the playability), but on the chain selector. Keeps the melodic playability, lets you still browse your samples.
I use this exclusively, and the not being able to prelisten to sounds with Push in the browser, would not bother me one bit!

Yes, it does take work and time to set up the 128s, but if you use this time to actually pre-screen your favorite sounds, this time is not lost at all!

Oliver Alex, to answer your question; the quickest way to browse your samples is by pressing the select button when it's amber. It will jump automatically to the next preset or sample. It's not real-time like the browser is with the live instantaneous preview unfortunately.

Ideal solution would be to use one of the knobs to quickly cycle through samples getting ultra quick snapshots of your samples, then to have the selector buttons to fine-tune step through your samples if you think you've heard something you like.


I hate using 128's as I find the rotary knobs are just too imprecise for selecting without having buttons to step through samples also.

I'm with you on that one.

Hopefully Ableton are very aware of how important the instant preview feedback could be. It's nigh on impossible to start rumours based on truth gossip around here as Ableton are so damned tight lipped.

I haven't purchased Push yet, but I am very interested in seeing what a 2nd generation Push would be like. If they listen to the user requests and implement them, it should really be something special. Personally, I would love to see it be so intuitive that you NEVER have to touch the computer for anything. That would be awesome.

It would be great if they'd put all the knobs & buttons on a 69 key semi weighted keyboard. The ribbon controller too.

I hate conventional keys after Push, but I'll take a double on the pads though, 64 x 64...Better yet, I just found out about Livid's Base so having that side by side with a Push would do the trick...Now to mortgage the house?!
