Thanks for the input!

After reading through that page and even getting PMs from a few of you (thanks so much btw) about how important the instruments are I've decided to get Live 9 Suite.

I managed to pick up the Suite w/ DVDs off of Amazon for a bit cheaper than going through Ableton's store. And I'm excited to get started.

For a little background on this decison - I'm actually a software developer and understand that some of the limitations of Intro actually hinge on the usefulness of Push. You guys have been super helpful and I can't thank you enough.

Now that I have Suite in the mix, is there anything I should know or focus on when it arrives?

I would look at all the mods that are done for Push and also the PXT scripts for Push. They make Push into a twice as creative device! PXT Live (Plus) also enhances that instrument character by quite a bit.

Some here will probably say something like, don't get too much at the start. But since those scripts and hacks influence the possible workflow a lot, I'd say, why not learn with those already in place?!

I agree. I would rather not have anything holding me back from the beginning.

Any tutorials you guys used at the beginning?

For PXT Live and PXT Live Plus, just hit youtube and look for Strays channel (The maker of both products) He has multi video introductions for both.
For the free mods, just look here. Scripts I recommend are the Seapush color scheme and obviously the community remapping of Lives parameters for Push.

For general Live advice browse the forums here and do the inbuilt tutorials.
That should keep you busy for a while

I'd completely agree with acquiring PXT-Live when you get your Push. Stray is a brilliant developer and makes Ableton look like snails compared to his prolific output.

I would say however that you should learn Vanilla Push first to realise the strengths and weaknesses before moving on with PXT-Live. The default Push is a far more pure and simplistic setup and there is a beauty in that. PXT-Live can be several pages dense before you get to the parameter you need which means added levels of complexity and could be overwhelming at first.

Wow, that looks pretty!

Teal & Orange baby, Complementary colours attract.

Teal and orange makes way more sense to me because I am actually color blind. So this hack makes more sense than you'll ever know!

getting there, there was a thread with info on how to construct your own colour scheme so you could have the perfect scheme for your colour blindness.

Many a kind folk will help you here but this was the most straight forward viddy I've seen for getting used to live 9. Then if you are inclined to go through them quickly you can view the other live 9 viddys. Or, there are plenty of others, I just found this one straight forward w/o too much droning on and on w/o getting to the point. (youtube viddy watchers prolly understand what I mean)

Thanks for the groove3 link. I just signed up today. 15 bucks not bad at all for music theory courses. I was gonna sign up with askvideo.com at 25 a month, but this seems to be a better value.

So I got the Push last night and it's incredible. I am waiting to get Live 9 Suite (which arrives today) installed before I really try to learn Live. But I was able to make these two loops in about 45 mins (I know they're awful and not mixed well at all) so I thought I would share!

Definitely a fun time. Looking forward to getting used to Live a bit more so I can sketch out a song structure instead of just looping all of my clips at once.
