sounds like it got more interesting after I went to bed? Or the more depressing possibility — it didn't?
Yeah, like I said at the start, I think I'm done here now. This forum used to be great for people saying what they really thought, but If we can't have a conversation like that here any more then there's absolutely no point coming here.
What a shame.

thanks for the kind words, but I'm not actually sure what I could even talk about any more. I've spent enough of my time over the last 10+ years here talking about Ableton, it was the OT that made it interesting.H20nly wrote:yeah that ^

This seems the logical conclusion.andydes wrote: Obviously, pretty much every current affairs topic can be seen to relate to politics somehow. So does this mean we can't actually talk about what's going on in the world at all?

I like it. We can condense all of our "wisdom" into a snappy 4 minute pop number. It's going to be bigger than Imagine.

Re: Some clarification about the rules?
this banning people from talking about politics and religion has made this forum go all a bit fucking nonsense. i personally haven't contributed much in the past to threads of that type but i would read most of them with interest
i try and regard communicating with people here in the same way that i would talk to them face to face. and if while talking to them i had to consider whether or not everything i say could be construed as being in a political or religious context then it would kind of stunt the conversation. and it is doing that here.
it feels similar to when you were at school and if one or two kids in class fucked about then the whole class got punished.
if we cant talk about religion then are we allowed to talk about athiesm? ie, the absence of it?
or for example if we were banned from talking about the colour white could we then not talk about the colour black? or if we couldn't talk about 'up' would we get into trouble for mentioning 'down'? daft examples maybe but do you see what i mean?
i'll still come here daily as i always do as for me it is a valuable well of information and interesting characters but over the last few years it's gone from unmoderated and fun to walking on eggshells
i went to see Loop the other month as they'd reformed and played in london. the last time i saw them was in kentish town about 20 years ago in the Forum and the place was fucking awash with lager and pot smoke. when i saw them the other month they didnt even have any lager on draught and everyone was stood around smoking electronic cigarettes.
jesus (and that's just an expression of exasperation, it's obviously not meant in a religious context at all).
walking on eggshells
i hope it doesnt go all totally to shit because of this. i been using it for 9 sodding years

Yeah, it didn't. In the end it was unimportant bannter about which emoticons mean what and how much we all like beats me. Pretty dull.Forge. wrote:sounds like it got more interesting after I went to bed? Or the more depressing possibility — it didn't?

I think what we are facing here, is not a real policy change of Ableton the company, but one by one guy and one guy only.
I imagine he has the task to moderate these forums as an added task to what he usually has to do, so he does it with as little effort as possible. Meaning he drops by once a day, checks if anything that annoys him happened. Deletes the thread without warning (how rude!) and goes on with his normal work.
That's why we were able to have this political discussion for a whole day (without ANY questionable behaviour!) and then suddenly: Thread disappeared. Not locked, disappeared, because, otherwise there would be a "paper" trail, that could put his decision into question.
So that's where we stand: an uncaring moderator, deciding with the least effort possible on a whim what he likes and what he doesn't!
And none of us need to wait for a clarification of the rules. He just doesn't care enough about any of us, or the task of moderating, to even write a single post...

yup. i think that is a reasonable assumption to makeTomViolenz wrote: I think what we are facing here, is not a real policy change of Ableton the company, but one by one guy and one guy only.

Re: Some clarification about the rules?
Hi guys,
This is just to chime in and say that we do read the forum - in fact, a few of us do, - however, we do not have the moderator resources needed to cover general topics pertaining to politics and religion. Please keep in mind that The Lounge is something of an experiment that we ran and not the main part of the forum. We also feel that these topics are outside of the scope of interest for the greater community of the Ableton forum, which is what the Community Guidelines state, in a nutshell. In addtion to that, there are other places on the web such as Reddit which are far more suitable to discuss topics like these.
Hope this clarifies things a bit!

So what constitutes religion and politics?[stm] wrote:Hi guys,

This is the main point of uncertainty we face.
How can we have a decent discussion in the Lounge (Per definition a place for those of the community, that choose to, to hang out and have general discussions and light bannter), if we have to be constantly afraid of saying something, that my be considered political by someone? Someone, who btw, never comments on what exactly it was that woke his/her ire.
This situation let's all of us just hang high and dry, and will completely dry out the Lounge, making your experiment, a failed one!
Edit to add:
I would like to make a suggestion:
Considering that you don't have the resources to moderate the Lounge (understandable), how about we come to a solution of half self-moderation, half you guys taking charge?
It could work like this: The Lounge stays unmoderated as it was, until someone complains about a thread to the moderators. In which case, you either just lock the thread (considering the lack of resources you have), or better, comment on the situation and issue warnings. Warnings that could for repeat offenders lead to a ban.
How about it?!
