Those Behringer ones look nice an' all, but like I said in the NAMM thread
here, there's not enough knob action going on.
The Livid thing has a fairly decent number of knobs above each fader (could even do with more), but the "control surface" products usually only have one.
One knob does not a mixer make.

I hear ya, and I'd lean heavily more on the Livid because of that, but no recall just takes out the 'YES' factor so neither of them made a sale. I'm probably in the minority so who cares, but wouldn't it be sweet? So close...anyway I'm sure the next one will have it.

This one looks quite awesome, and not like a knock off at all!
100mm Faders! Touch sensitive! MOTORIZED!
Damn!
But, only 1 encoder per track is not enough...

3 would be about right, the 5 of the Livid, almost perfect!
BTW, I didn't find any pricing information, how much are they?!

$599, $399 and $99
There's a story and video here

Annoying though how the $399 Compact model has more knobs than the top $599 model. Doh.

the livid looks good! I was so desperate for a controller like this that i bought 2 xone-k2s to handle mix duties for an upcoming show. I feel like i paid a little too much, and i would like more knobs but it's good. The livid thing has one more knob per channel and i'd still like to see more. How nice would it be to have dedicated eq or filter controls for each channel and still have some knob left for pan, aux send, per channel effect control without having to switch through layers or banks??

All I saw on the Behringer article was that only the cheapest one was bus powered..
Once again, the beauty of the Livid controller is the combination of faders and a multitude of knobs, which you simply cannot find on the market right now.
It's all this virtual 8-encoders-to-control-all stuff, which has amazing applications. But sometimes you just need commited controls.

My dream would be something like the compact Behringer (I really dig the 100mm motorized faders!) with 8 knobs per channel! A boy can dream, huh...?!

8? Nah, I'd want 10 or 11.
That's what's on a typical full size mixer. One of mine has 10, the other two have 11.
Actually the mic channels on a Xone:464 have got 14!

That's about what i would find ideal too. 8 channels, 10 knobs per channel (some can be smaller), a button under each knob and two under each fader.

Yeah....basically an entire mixer, but just MIDI controls.

there's actually kits out there that make it super easy to build your own usb/midi controller, and i've been tempted for a long time, but ultimately i'm just too fucking lazy.

Aye, it's actually the design and building of the housing that puts me off the most.
