I heared on these forums recently that learning your tools is considered elite nowadays

not that i'm chasing you down (just happened to see this here) but it's bullshit to say that's what you heard

what you DID hear was, that it is elitist to tell someone to WAIT until they have something to add to put their music out there, that there was some magic level of expertise to be obtained before sharing your music. THAT is b.s.

I don't understand why you would want to compress a kick sample by itself.

as others are suggesting, use a compressor to accentuate parts of the envelope

fast attack = more body or tail

slow attack = more transient or punch

varying the release will add more variations
