There is this chick I talk to on the phone at work a couple times a week who basically has the same job position I do but at a different company. My coworker showed me her Linkedin profile and not only is she cute but I’m attracted to the fact that she is one of the few people I know who could bitch about the same work issues because most people wouldn’t know what the fuck we are talking about.

Oh that's great, then you could work at work and talk about work at home. Sounds like a great life to me...
OTOH if she's really cute - go for it

Actually I think the “How was your day, honey?” conversations would be a lot shorter because we wouldn’t have to first explain details of the job. Already on business calls we know what it means when one of us says “My boss is really riding my ass on this”. No “How so?” follow up needed.

When I meet people from the Ableton forum IRL we talk about the forum at great length. It never gets old.
At any rate, I don't have a strict policy but I'd rather not date people I work with. My roommate was with a girl from one of his company's customers. It ended and now he still has to deal with her as a customer.

I've been on Linkedin for years.
It is becoming more prominent as a business/social site and is definitely one of the first places recruitment agents look.
I have been contacted several times by agents on there, and my ex was an Executive Head Hunter and Linkedin was always the first port of call.
It's also great for posting up specialist groups, interesting articles and invites etc.
