Ableton Forum

Im confused......when i shopped for my Push, i went to the site where ableton lists all features that come bundled with each option they sell. No hiding of information. As far as external instrument, i myself never use it. Found the I/O way to be more simple like someone mentioned earlier. As for maschine...i suggest ypu try it at guitarcenter. I wanted it badly, until i tried it. Ableton seemed to be more intuitive and more featured .i couldnt wrap my head around navigating maschine.

I'm with you on this one too fritz, I've tried Maschine a number of times now, once using a friend's unit and others in my local store in extended sessions. Maschine bamboozles me each time (though it feels lovely). Push on the other hand was intuitive to me from day one. Every day thereafter has only become better.

Maschine definitely takes a little longer to figure out I think, but in a way it's an unfair comparison too because Maschine can do a lot more from the hardware.

I love both.....

......but use Live more frequently. Plus, ever try looping live audio in Maschine????? (If anyone has any tips, please tell me. So far it seems it requires placing a note on a pattern, then recording a one shot. And even after recoding the one-shot, it missed one cycle inbetween recording and playback)

I'm really late to the party, but I don't think we figured out what the OP was talking about just yet.

I bought PUSH as an instrument, & as far as I'm concerned, that's the way I use it... kinda like a Fantom/Motif/Triton. I have no problem controlling my XV5050 with it, simple midi i/o operation. I have no idea what "external instrument" is.

I also own Maschine, pretty much the same reason I bought PUSH, except it's more of an instrument like an MPC... well, more like my MV-8800. I use it for drums (much quicker & more intuitive than Ableton's drum rack), sampling, & as a controller/browser for my NI instruments (Kontakt, Absynth, Massive).

With Maschine, I always get to the point where I need another midi controller, something with keys that I can play...

Push, I just don't like the way Live is set up... kinda backwards from every other DAW. I've only been at it a few months but it's still not second nature, like Logic or ProTools or Maschine (Maschine was just super instinctive to me). I'll probably never upgrade from Intro though, I just don't see the need just yet. Logic's my DAW, PUSH is just an instrument.

Honestly, I don't think there's a program more intuitive than pro tools. Ableton was the easiest program next to pro tools for me. If you can't get the hang of session view. You can always just use the arrangement view which is similar too most dAws

If you don't use session view there are many other programs that do "Arrangement" better than Ableton (Cubase for example). To not use session view is to not use Ableton IMO but.. .yes you are not stuck if you and Session view don't get along.
