No, I just had seen everything this theme can offer at the age of twelve. I just don't enjoy all that fake excitement over fights in which the winner is already clear before it even starts. (Hint: It's our hero...;-))

YES. The original 1963 Outer Limits series is essential Sci-Fi.

Submitted for your approval, the compelling intro to The Outer Limits:

Season one also featured excellent music by Dominic Frontiere, while the score for season two occasionally featured a Novachord.

If you want some vintage, campy fun check out the Japanese Ultraman series which began in 1966.

The absolute best (season 3 and the end had its weaknesses though).
That's what I want: believable future developments that are brought to logical conclusions. A different society, but again brought to logical conclusions.
Awesome actors.
And count me as one of those who consider Battlestar Galactica 2003-2009 to probably be the greatest Sci-Fi show ever made!

I rest my case.

:D

(later episodes jazzed up the opening music and dropped the God awful lyrics, but at the expense of women frolicking around for no reason)

Cowboy Bebop. Anime and Sci-Fi in one package. I haven't seen it available on any streaming source though.

A different genre, but Sherlock from BBC was pretty damn good. Available on Netflix.

True! Me & my girlfriend waited so long to watch "the empty hearse" episode!

I can confirm "sherlock" is a very good tv show

Oh, and though BSG was quite good, caprica was just about the worst in history :x

How so?!

-great plausible explaination how the AI in the Cylons emerged from the Avatars in their virtual reality.
-good showing of how that virtual reality would be (although I think they could have emphazised more what effects that would have on a society)

-Good back story how they got from their roman/greek sort of religion to a one god/christian like religion, but in the present day. And what problems that causes
-Good explanation how they treated the Cylons like slaves, although they were fully capable AIs and fully sentinent---explaining well the hate of the Cylons
-Good showing of Human hubris leading to disaster

The whole thing could have been more tightly paced, I agree and the series should not have stopped where it did, but I thought it was a good effort and a great aproach for a spin off.

Compared to all the Star Trek and Stargate spin offs for sure, where they just vary the cast and some minor details

BSG was great , definitely my all time favorite tv show. Caprica bored me to tears, I never even finished it. :(

Though I didn't like Fringe or Continuum either, so what do I know

I do agree that the pacing was off and that it tried to manage too many different stories at the same time, making it somewhat convoluted.

BUT: I would love to see the BSG universe further explored!

(I already LOVED the idea of 12 habitable planets orbiting a single sun!
Just imagine how different everything would be, if only Mars and Venus were habitable and we would have colonized them quite a while ago!)

There was something about the recaps in BSG that made them mesmerizing and perpetuated binge watching. That percussion piece of Bear McCreary's combined with the scene editing would just get you PUMPED to keep watching. Oddly enough one of the best parts of the show for me.

I just rewatched all of BSG a couple months ago, and it struck me how they didn't even try to wrap up everything by the end of each episode. They'd keep you hanging at the end, or many episodes would have two or three "to be continued". It made you really anxious to see what happened in the next episode, and felt more like a long movie than TV. Early seasons of Lost we're like that too.

That's one reason I didn't get on with continuum or fringe, felt too much like a CSI episode where they try and wrap it up nice and pretty every episode. Usually that would lead to really unbelievable solutions (like some smart computer kid or some kooky old scientist always having the answers), or the plot just feeling rushed. Sure there are long story arcs too, but they only hit on those once in awhile.

Yes, that's something I like as well, when a series is one long story. BSG was weakest IMO when it tried to do episodic stories like in the second half of the second season and much of the third.

I find the episodic stuff most grating, when there is actually a long and thrilling/interesting story arc, but then it gets interupted by an episode telling some totaly random trivia (usually some human interest thing, to not lose the female audience ;-)).

Stargate Universe suffered from this a lot with their call home episodes.

I think their might be a trend towards long movie style series too, with House of Cards being the most obvious example.
