Mudvayne's first record reminded me of Primus in the bass playing at moments, but as a band they also reminded me of TOOL and Pantera and shit so it gets fuzzy.

*shrugs*

Some ppl say Tera Melos sounds like Primus, but I think it'd be moreso in the guitar playing than the bass.

Oh god, in the late '80s / early '90s around here every second band was "magic" with spiky guitars and shit. The only reason they didn't sound like Beefheart was a lack of Van Vliet larynxes.
Big Eyed Beans from Venus.

Micachu And The Shapes is pretty unique imho, and pure genius. Of course you can't say "it doesn't remind me x or x" but...
Shellac, it inspires a lot of bands in the indi/noise rock scene, but nobody can emulate that !

me neither. I've had quite a few attempts at liking them over the years but have never managed it. I went to see them a year or two ago and finally gave up on them and walked out. they're shit. definitely original though

I should have a listen to that micachu and the shapes. I absolutely love the score to under the skin which mica levi did. cheers

and yeah shellac I guess are pretty individual sounding. the only other bands I can immediately think of who sound like them would be steve albini's previous bands. rapeman especially...

Tago Mago - Mushroom. That rhythm; breakbeats before they broke beats :)
