Each Sampler (as a 128) is in a rack. That same rack contains the TransientShaper after the Sampler (I can really recomend the Shaack Audio one, good sound, low CPU, low price). From the Sampler the volume, filter freq (HP), resonance, shaper amount (I chose the soft algo) and Sample selector are mapped to the rack macros, from the TransientShaper it's Attack, Release and Drive that I have mapped.
The Gain from the TS is left at neutral.

The way I use this is while designing the drum kit to work together. So I have made usually a simple 1 bar or 4 bar loop and then I design all 16 elements to work together.
In a live situation i mostly use of these parameters the SampleSelector and the filter freq (if the resonance is not set too high, if it is then that's too dangerous). The TS is purely used in the original sound design.

(All of this works very well with Push if you turn on the little blue arrow of the DrumRack, so that pressing the pad immidiately shows you the corresponding rack macros of the pad.)

If you plan to change samples on the fly in a running live set in a live situation, then there is one essential step: Normalise all samples! (you can be lazy and use Lives Normalise, but I rather do it by ear in addition.)

If you already use a TransientShaper, another use I like is to use one after the whole DrumRack as well!!! Especially the Release changes the energy of the whole drum loop considerably and in a very predictable manner

ah okay, thx, but youn talked about "shaper Amount " as a macro dial. What is this for, if it's not for dry/wet amount.

ah okay, iread it again, and saw that u r talking about the shaper amount in the sampler...


btw, i have the transient master from the komplete ultimate box. there is just sustain instead of release.

Yes it's quite a nice way to color your drum hits. Especially as I have also the drive from the TransientShaper. They do sonically similar, yet always quite different things. The Shaper adds a harsher sort of distortion, so I use only small amounts, while the Drive in the Shaack TS adds almost a tube distortion like character.
None add significant amounts of CPU since they are already part of devices I use anyways.

(I just checked (it has been a while since I set it up) and I have actually assigned the Gain of the TS and the Drive to the same knob. The Gain is at neutral (50%) when the Drive is zero and then goes up to end up at full gain and drive when the Drive Macro is at 127. This is necessary as the Drive in the TS attenuates the volume down when you use it)

I don't know that one, I used to use the one from Maschine (which made me discover how nice it is to work with TransientShapers in the first place), so that may be similar to the one you use.
The Maschine one is limited to Maschine, so I had to get a new one for use in Live.

I downloaded the Demos of most around and after testing it came down to two.
People usually say the SPL one is the best, but I don't hear that at all, and it's not only much more expensive it also uses four times the CPU per instance. So having 16 of these in my set was a no-go.

The Shaack one sounds as good as the SPL one (IMO) and sounds better than what I was used to with Maschines TS. The attack is more prominent, and the Release widens the tail more. And it has the Drive!

Sustain=Release: I think they probably just use different words for the same thing.

just tried the shape in sampler, and it really adds a more distorted sound sound to the sample. nice advice
