Yuck, so Aphex Twin is the rather simple minded neigbourhood stoner dude?! Just read the first few paragraphs, but that was quite dissapointing gibberish.
Yeah right, your "neigbourhood stoner dude" wrote a whole pack of electronic tracks
that redefined electronic music. Sure.
Maybe Richard and other creative people don't set out to impress people like you. And just do what they do not caring what other people thinks about it.
While I disagree with some viewpoints expressed in the interview, I revelled in the electronic music nerdy details, that are just too good to miss. Your set of expectations on artists does seem more than reasonably screwed up.
Wow, did I offend your hero
I like some of Aphex Twins stuff (a lot) and agree with the bolded statement. That doesn't mean that all the LSD talk was not very annoying stupidity. (And yes I have used it

)
And yes maybe my expectation was too high when believing that the guy who made Ambient Works 2 is not an imbecil.
By the way I did ask if the interview gets better later, I was just not willing to spend more of my time on reading these stoner ramblings from the beginning.

Yeah, he obviously likes living in the past.
Good for him

Does that mean that if you use old analog synths you're "living in the past". I certainly don't think so. It's not what you use or what year it was made. It's what you do with it.
I'm pretty sure Richard D James knows what he's doing with his music equipment. Do you know what you're doing with yours?
Lighten up, it was a joke.
His last album release was in 2001 afterall.

I said so in the very interview we are talking about here.

I believe 2001 was his last release under the Aphex Twin moniker, but not Richard's. Just a little bit of pedantry

Ah that explains the discrepancy.
I too thought that the horrible Analord wankery had come out after 2001.

Horrible? Analord is some boss shit. Definitely some of the best throwback material available other than maybe Ceephax's stuff.

Anyway,
how many of you heard the unreleased "
Caustic Window" 1994 album?
I love "101 Rainbows (ambient mix)", "Fingry", "Airflow" and "Flutey", find "Jazzphase", "Squidge in the Fridge", "Revpok", "Fingertrips", "Mumbly", "Stomper 101mod Detunekik" to be very listenable but don't care much about the rest.
I wasn't part of the kickstarter about purchasing one of the acetates, but someone gave me the full album lossless. Christmas in August!

Haven't heard it. Kinda consider that era hit or miss anyway. Listening to old electronic music in general is almost purely nostalgic for me these days. Most of it has lost it's air of mystery that made it interesting at the time.

Funny, I wasn't as into electronic music when those things were coming out.
Only recently did I get some Analord records, I think some of them are pretty amazing.
I'm not a huge Aphex Twin fan, but RDJ is definitely fascinating to me.
I love nerding out on long discussions about gear, so that interview was a real treat.
As a fan of psychedelics, especially from my younger experiences, I really enjoyed his ramblings.
It was nostalgically comforting and in a way seemed to reconnect me with youthful optimism.
All the latest news has made my appreciation grow for him.
However, I like really fucked up music.
Someone with little desire to do things traditionally, develops a style and becomes influential, I cant help but be inspired by that.
I relate, and I too get seriously bored with typical cliche interviews.
I think my favorite part of the interview was him talking about adding all the little details in the music.
Not adding them for any other reason than trying to not become bored of your own material, more of a pursuit to keep yourself surprised by your own creation.
I also like knowing that there's someone out there who will use all kinds of stuff to create, and it's not about this one thing, or that latest tech etc. Seems he has a general appreciation in what various types of gear provide.
Good stuff!
Thanks for posting the video.

Yes, I know. Tongue in cheek isn't among the emoticons so I couldn't lighten up the tone there.
I guess if you know a version of Live inside out why would you switch? I bought 8 before 9 was out and found it very useful. I can see why you'd stay with it. I think we have a few members in the forums that stayed with 8.
However, as have been pointed out we actually don't know which version of Live Richard uses as the video material is several years old, which puts it before Live 9 was released. Unless it's on that gear list. I didn't look.
