I have been banned from a forum before and in my opinion undeservedly so.
I became a member of the Frank Gambale forum a while back. The reason was that I was looking for a particular record that he released a long time ago that is now out of print. I wanted it because I managed to get hold of some tablature of the music on the record and I wanted to hear it. So by joining the forum I thought that maybe I could track down this CD. Well, I started reading some of the posts people were writing and responded to a few of them. Quite a few of the members of his forum seem to be red-necked, ultra conservative, religious fundamentallist types, including the moderator.
Obviously the main thing these forum members have in common is that they all think Frank Gambale is the greatest and generally speaking everyone else is crap. if you criticise FG in any way you are asking for trouble!!!!! Now I was constructively criticising and I wasn't being a troll, which is what I was accused of. Basically my crime was that I didn't kiss Frank Gambable's arse and say what a great guitar player he is ( by the way I find a lot of his music extremely dull, but I do appreciate that he can play a mean guitar solo) and I dared to say how great other guitar players are. Even FG himself had a go at me.
Now I hate his music even more and I try to put as many people as I can off from buying his records (childish I know).
So everyone out there. DON'T BUY HIS EXTREMELY BORING MUSIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've started leaving my non techy messages sit for a while before i send so my stoned self can figure out if its drivel, i find i'm deleting most of them lately.....Butt i think its building up inside me like bad energy, like I'm going to log on one days call you all a bunch of C"nt's and bastards and ramble on for twelve paragraphs about how i now like Seinfield but thought he was a dickhead in the nineties!!!!!!!!!! eeeeekkkkkk
This is interesting!
I mean, does the software influence the people gathered around it?
And there have been discussions here about moderation or not (what has been seen is removal of a few posts), and that tend to end in a state of that most of us think we are self-moderated as a community, and it seems to be true.
It's like an adaptive process. It took me some time to get in to the vibe or spirit of this place. But because I feel trust for the community, a simple PM from one of the members I'm familiar with, pointing out I was doing something really wrong, would absolutely make a grave impression and probably change my ways.
It' like having us relatively free, creates an conductive(?) responsability.
(Just wanted to use some words I haven't used for the last 24 h)

Heh.... I'm working on your situation AJ , I'm not comfortable with the fact they just didn't warn you first. Only thing good about it is for a little while longer my post count will be higher than yours!AdamJay wrote:Machinesworking wrote:If not why hasn't this place turned to the "anarchy and chaos" that other forums with heavy moderation claim would befall their beloved little kingdom if they didn't ban people, change thread titles etc.
I've seen no evidence of moderation, and this forum seems to work just fine.
gee michael,
what ON EARTH could have brought up this subject?

the food could be better but i've gotten damn good at solitaire. they give us 2 hours of sunlight a day. with which i use the sunlights energy to melt down the plastic sporks they give us at mealtime to a more vicious uber-spork that i can use to defend myself with.

you in a prison or mental institution?
This is kinda interesting conny...
I suppose if you go into a pub and everybody is growling and being nasty, you'll finish your drink and go. Like my experience of the cubase forum. Only good thing about that forum was watching people get really cross about Steinberg not responding to what customers wanted... which as you all know is not the case here with Ableton...
This particular pub (Ye Olde Ableton Armes) is full of pretty interesting people who seems pretty happy with each other and well adjusted, bar the odd prank. The only real anger and volatility I've witnessed in my time here was when those crazy Armenians spammed everybody and brought out the worst nationalist side of some users.
It's a good community here. That's why we all keep coming back! Maybe it runs well because newbies pick up the helpful vibe and respond in kind. Maybe if we were all on steroids and SHOUTING all the time new people would act like that too...

Now you can contribute to a long tradition of outsider art AJ, in the blues tradition, "Nobody knows the trouble i see, nobody knows but sweetjesus"AdamJay wrote:

theres another forum i'm on run by people who rarely wave the shitty stick of moderation at us, purely cos they are like minded individuals, but also cos we all get on and lifes more fun with a bit of controversy!!! sure they have a few things like no posting of cracked software and nothing pornographic, but short of that, if some ones being a twat, then people will let them know.Machinesworking wrote:If not why hasn't this place turned to the "anarchy and chaos" that other forums with heavy moderation claim would befall their beloved little kingdom if they didn't ban people, change thread titles etc.
