There's been a discussion on gearsluts on this topic quite recently.

To put a different perspective on it: narcoman and Etch-A-Sketch are throwing around figures in currency (mind narcoman is talking GBP, not USD) per minute of finished and recorded score.

I agree with swishniak, try to contact the other composer. If you're undercutting them too much, you're a) harming the wohle profession, b) making yourself look very amateurish and insecure.

And remember, it's work for hire, no royalties.

No worries, I asked him how much he'd be willing to offer. Basically they're kind of scrapping the first composer and sticking with me. They offered a very good amount per minute of music, and they want about an hour. Thanks for all the good advice people, you've definitely helped me out (except that first guy who told me minimum wage was a good idea).

Just trying to be helpful... :)
(I did make a couple of other suggestions, though..)

ha, yes almost as helpful as VOLVO VOLVO VOLVO VOLVO VOLVO VOLVO VOLVO VOLVO (that's surprisingly fun to type over and over...now I get it)

BTW, the January issue of Sound On Sound has a good article on common pay rates for game music, might be worth a look.
