Yeah... it seems like people who want this workflow will be stuck with overdubbing into Arrangement after the clip has already been recorded into a track there.
I created a thread in the feature request section about this. For those of you who want this workflow, be sure to reply to this thread with a "+1".

My guess is the more people that show an interest in this feature, the more likely Ableton is to make it a priority.
