Assuming you also turn these instruments off/on it comes down to mostly an organisational advantage with the added convenience that you can switch between them with a macro.
it's worth keeping in mind that Live spreads the load over the cpu's cores, where each track is processed on a separate core.
so if you have 4 instruments in a rack on one track, it will be less efficient than having those 4 instruments on their own tracks.

...yes, but only if all of these instruments are actually switched on...if only one of the four is switched on then there shouldn't be any difference, right?...

hi again,
i'm playing around with these instrument racks and can't find a way to have the selected instrument be in "focus" so that i can easily use this instrument's macros with my push…is there any way at all?…

Turn the Auto Select button on (the little arrow pointing to the right, below the words "Instrument Rack".
Now if you select any instrument in any chain (so that it has the Blue Hand) when you select any of the other chains using the chain selector, the Blue Hand will stay active on the currently selected (active) instrument.
See the pics below, all I did was move the chain selector and the currently selected chain/instrument stays in focus - the Blue Hand jumps from Operator to Electric.

I don't have Push, but this is how it works with other MIDI controllers. Does that work for you?

...ok...i have a strange behaviour/bug here:

i've set up everything like you suggested and it works flawless (meaning i can switch to the different instruments and they turn on when selected) when moving the macro knob with my mouse/macbook's touchpad BUT
when i turn macro1 on my push only the instrument on position "0" turns on, all other instruments stay turned off when i select them via push...can someone confirm this?...what could be the problem?...

...i just tested it with macro1 midi-mapped to my nanokontrol and it works!...so it seems the problem is push related...

...strange...when i select a range, e.g. 5-10 for an instrument rack with the on-range also set to 5-10, dialing to 5 with my push selects the instrument rack in off-status, from 6-10 it's on...

...touchable shows same behaviour like push...

Works here with push... Can you upload your liveset ?

...i don't know how to upload stuff, so no unfortunately...
...does it work for you when every instrument is one step in the chain selector or only when you have e.g 5 steps for one instrument?...do you stack "plain" instruments or instrument racks?...this is strange indeed...
when i have one instrument rack from 5 to 9 and another one from 10 to 14, choosing 5 or 10 selects the instrument rack in status "off", the rest (6-9 and 11-14) in status "on"...i thought this is maybe by design (?)...0-4 is always "on" though...

No, you have to cover the whole range to make it work : e.g. Instrument 1 : 0 to 45, instrument 2: 46 to 90 and instrument 3: 91 to 127. I have both instruments and instruments racks.
The problem with this is that you'll have to remember the steps. To make it easier I modified the multimapper m4l device and named the steps on a macro knob (mapped to the chain selector macro) so it displays the instruments names on push.
