New NI Komplete Kontrol with third party plugin support out

Another thing that annoys me (that probably also does software) is presets put in nonsensical banks. (Bank A, Bank B, Bank C, ect.) There really needs to be a music software standardization summit. There are certain things developers don’t need to be different or creative with.

Hey Jestermgee....your are most definitely a tru guru when it comes to programming MIDI and understanding how everything ties together. I am the exact opposite of you . Even if I wanted to do what you have the talents for I have ADD for half my life and a brain injury which makes focusing for long periods of time basically impossible. So I have a real quick and hopefully it;s an easy answer, I have the Kontrol 61 and Komplte Ultimate which I have not setup yet because I will be a getting a new computer withing next few weeks. My 2009 Imac is finally going on the fritz. So does it make sense forgetting money for one second which I do not have a lot of which and purchase the 25 key advance because I am a heavy user of spetrasonics software Onisphere 2, Trillian and styus RMX and know that I have Konplete Ultimate, just for the time it will save browsing the VST databases, does that seem like a good $350 investment picking up the 25 key advance? I really respect and appreciate your advice. Thanks bro,

Personally if it was me i'd hold off for a while. The 25 key is not really popular and I have already seen this on sale even here in Australia for up to $100 off RRP. I couldn't personally manage with a 25 key either.

The KK will improve I am sure and if you can, shoot off an email to Spectrasonics asking if they would consider NKS integration. If enough of us do it they may just play nice. While the Advance software does run rings around the KK at the moment for actually browsing VSTs it isn't perfect and there is manual work to get the lesser known plugins working. Omnisphere2 is not compatible (only omnisphere 1 presets) and I have no idea about Stylus (though Trilian is in there). The new Beta does make some good improvements and most of the concerns I had were fixed. Give your S61 at least 6 months, preset flipping isn't the end of the world and Omnisphere has a good library manager within anyway.

Yeah but all users are doing is creating a control map for an instrument. Browsing any presets still isn't available. Basically the same thing is needed as is needed for Push and that is to run through each preset 1-by-1 and save within the KK software then assign tags for browsing. This creates a file in your user library (on your hard drive) which saves the tags, preset and controller mappings. The Advance is the same deal really BUT Akai have done the work for you in most cases saving and mapping presets.

There is another problem too with KK....

Control mappings as far as I can tell are saved within each preset so if you rip all Omnisphere presets for instance and then find you don't like the control setup that's too bad. Advance allows the user to change control mappings globally OR on a preset by preset basis.

Hope NKS can bring many developers on board and helps to develop better controllers in the future.

This is what I am really hoping for especially if it is also open for other controller manufacturers to use too. The issue with the MCU standard is though it is feature rich with carrying MIDI and control data between controller and DAW it does not offer any of the features NKS does such as feedback for lightguide (would be very useful for Push... Think about auto-coloured pads for Battery) or the biggest drama facing the first world: not being able to browse or step through presets.

If NKS could be used within DAWs and VST's then control surfaces could basically act as a direct extension as Push was intended and allow browsing, control and feedback of pretty much everything. Certainly is a fine dream.

I use my 25 Key S-25 to control Komplete Kontrol and save space on my desktop. If I need more keys, I simply add another keyboard controller for my left hand. Works fof me...

The KK integration with the Arturia synth collection is really a no-brainer (or did I already say that... I forget...
