like me you're using something like a room correction vst like the IK multimedia ARC, but even without this
being able to preview clip in context of the present state of the song seems really logical... If I'm mixing
and I want to add a top loop for example, I would want to be able to browse through some loops while they're
bein fed to the master bus along all of my other tracks in the arrangement...

I have the same sort of situation. I also use a bit of Room EQ to iron out some imperfections in my listen position. The way I do it now is use Audiohijack (which also allows you to load 3rd party plugins) and apply the Room EQ there. That way it is applied system wide as I use the stereo output of my RME soundcard as my device for system audio as well as the output for Ableton. I am on a Mac.
Sadlly audiohijack is mac only, I have yet to see a pc equivalent -

a godsend would be the ability to load a couple of VST's DIRECTLY in RME's Total Mix but I've asked them already, they're not willing to compromise the stability of their
driver... sad but understandable

i sometimes route audio through AU Lab (OS X only of course) for this purpose too.

on Windows you can use Jack to route your audio to a standalone VST host:

http://www.jackaudio.org/

or you can use this:

http://www.virtualaudiostream.com/

another relatively new option for internal audio routing is Dante Via, which i have just started testing:

Cool, I wasn't aware of those, I'm definitly going to try them. If it works, it's definitly a solution (dare I say better solution) for the room correction scenario! but not
so much for the masterchain scenario

for OS X people, AU Lab hasn't been updated for years and has some issues now.

i'm now using Dante Via to pipe all audio to Reaper as a lightweight plugin host for my room correction stuff. working well so far...

[edit] actually, the current version of Dante Via seems a bit flaky and fragile...

how about posting something useful if you're just going to bump this? I had to re-read the entire thread to get what you were on about... I want my 5 minutes back.

edit - I got trolled. OP joined 5 years ago and has only made 1 post.

if I read this correctly... people want to hear the 'browser preview' through an effects chain in Live. IOW make it a bus that can be routed around Live.
