If this is with a Push connected it's a bit of an offset with how Push can control the selected track without having it "full armed" but "select armed" which shows the Pink rec arm.

A quick way to disarm tracks from Pink is to switch Push from Note to Clip mode and then do your automation recording.

In arrangement view, set your track's input to "No Input" and the track's record button disappears. (To access the track's input selector, show the "In/Out" View.)

A quick run down for anyone finding this page in the future:

If anyone is looking to JUST record automation, you don't need to arm the track at all to record automation as long as the "Automation Arm" button is on at the top and your parameters are receiving change information. If the track isnt armed then the clips are preserved.

Note that there is a gotcha with the Push where if it is in Note Mode, the track is automatically armed, which you can address:
