There's a bunch of quirks like this tho. They're definitely ableto fix them.

So support says session view clips default to 16th with fixed grid. Arrange adaptive grid. Try it

Yeah it looks like arrangement view always defaults to adaptive grid for new midi clips.

However it looks like if you hit Cmd+5 / Ctrl+5 after creating a clip in arrangement view it will switch to 16th fixed grid, which for me is at least better than right clicking and trying to choose it out of the contextual menu each time...
