Any of you guys have an opinion on the best dbx 160 series emulation?

Correct on all three.

The Teletronix LA-2A is actually a collection of LA2As with slightly different timing curves and saturation modeling.

Oh, since we're speaking of compressors and vintage emulations, Plugin Alliance just released a multi band emulation of the Neve 2254E.

Hi 102455. Well, it is certainly an interesting one, and often referred to as the "holy grail" of compressors. If you feel drawn to it, then its a good opportunity, considering it is normally pretty expensive. Looks like they put a lot of work into it.

waves api 2500 is a much more versatile compressor than the 670 puigchild and is $49 atm also .. the api is actually pretty good ,in, it will do wonders for a host of source material, not just a 1 or 2 trick pony .. one of my fav is the Plugin Alliance lindell 7x500 1176 clone what it does for electronic drums is awesome.. the PA Elysia mpressor is another great multi purpose vca comp.. i also use the acme opticom xl3 (LA2A .. well sort of ) on the 2 bus or drum bus just a a character leveler it sounds fantastic

i have waves still learning it seems good on snares really makes them crack hats also .. bass not so much having said that my bass isn't really that dynamic more sub .. not much in the way of colour though

Not unbeatable — this really depends on material and application — but totally wonderful compressors. For a free taste: MJUC jr. and DC1A. Great stuff in their own right.

I just want to stress the importance of checking out these Klanghelm offerings. Check out the first place 2016 at Gearslutz. Then check out the heavy competition it's ahead in these Pro's opinion (My assumption anyway).

I feel more inclined getting MJUC and maybe DC8C than the API 2500 actually (which may very well be a great compressor). Those prices are like a few pizzas. There's some price in CPU cycles though, which I think the free versions allow you test quite nicely.

In the UK you'd just about get one pizza for the DC8C's price of 20 EUR (about £16).

Hey guys, thought I'd post this here.

Over the weekend I picked up Lindell Audio's 354E - it's basically a mulitband (3 bands) version of the 254E (Neve) - another poster here sung the praises for the 254E so I thought I'd give the new version a try.

I spent about 30 mins with the demo and then purchased. This is likely to become my go-to for drum buss processing. It sounds fantastic, I mean, really really great. It's so good for taming boominess or harshness and it can really glue things together well.

I love the fact you can set cross-over frequencies but still maintain the vintage vibe. I know it only has 3 bands, but I love the simplicity of this compressor.

I'd recommend trying this sucker.

you have to be dedicated to the cause and have a fast computer. also, although they do support Windows and OS X, their Windows support is far better than their OS X support.

On the concept of more unusual compressors have anyone tried the BSS DPR-402 in hardware or plug-in form? What's your view on this, let's call it more extreme, compressor/de-esser?

Interesting.

I'm not that fond of the native Multiband Dynamics effect in Live and hesitated some years back getting the Waves C4 as an alternative to that. Not that the Live MD is really bad, but it seems what's it's good at is not something I need (like drum loops).

I've learned since to love the C4 on instrument busses, wild hardware synths in dear need of taming and odd samples in bad shape.

It doesn't have side-chaining so I'm considering the Waves C6. This 354E seems interesting too.
