i had the exact same problem. so worse that it actually blew one of the speakers. since they replaced the frontpanel of the mbp (2018) it's much better but clearly not as stable as my last mbp from 2012. i had the problems on high sierra and mojave. maybe it is a hardware problem that eventually can get fixed with a software update? we will see.

ifa apple doesn't change, this will be my last laptop from them.

Having the same problem with my 15" MacBook Pro 2017 with i7 quad core, 16gb RAM and 512 ssd. It's only incrementally different from the 2018. My wife bought it for me as a gift and I thought I was set. If I run an omnisphere/keyscape stack while recording (LA Grand, Roland Crystal EP, Pad, and Synth) the audio will glitch especially if I hammer the keys at a high velocity. Same thing happens on both of my audio interfaces (Focusrite 18i8 and Presonus Studio 2/4). Need help desperately. This is my 3rd laptop. The first two were Windows and the second one in particular had better specs than my current MacBook. :? Just want to be able to play live without fear of any glitched or pops.

Look at the overall voice count of the instruments you are playing.

When you have issues with audio stuttering when you start to play faster it could be because of a large voice and osc count, especially when using instruments such as Omnisphere and it's a hard one for others to help solve because there is a huge difference between a single layer instrument and a multi-layer multi-part instrument that could max out a CPU in itself.

The instrument that starts to glitch you need to try and halve the voice count. For live performing you can get away with far less voices which will decrease the cycles needed from the CPU. Also effects such as unison can be huge killers so use that kind of thing sparingly.
