urmyuk, have you gotten the latest drivers from Echo site?
i vaguely remember some problem a while back with the Echo cards whereby they would not work with particular laptops unless you ran a fix.

also, make sure your sound isn't muted on teh laptop by the mute button (eg ALT-$loudspeaker_icon) sometimes the button is in blue on the number keys

Put it back while it is shout down.
Perhaps the driver was not good installed.
Be sure that you followed the instructions in the box to install the driver before the card is put in.
Otherwise windows installs it´s own drivers wich perhaps disable the onboard sound.
Perhaps try to uninstall and reinstall the drivers first.
But no fear, nothing can happen.
