I'm quite concerned about my results. I'm not running anything in the background (antivirus, firewall etc) so not sure why it should be this high.

1) Ableton Live CPU Meter %: 21% (peaks, 19% at lowest)
2) Laptop/Desktop? Make/Model: Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo M4438
3) Operating System: Windows XP Home with SP2
4) CPU Make Model and Speed: Intel Pentium-M Centrino (Alviso/Sonoma) 1.89GHz
5) Amount of Ram / Speed of Ram (if you know): 512MB SO-DIMM 533MHz PC4200
6) Soundcard (Stock or add on?, usb/firewire/pci ?): Stock Realtek HD Audio
7) Hard Disk Drive Speed (if you know): 2x60GB 5400rpm in SATA RAID

Before I set the power managment to Always On (i.e. turning off SpeedStep), it went jumping erratically between 20 and 40%.

This machine's fan is audible, but it's consistent and kind of muffled, so not really all that bothersome. It does generate too much heat to have it on your lap comfortably.

It does have a nVidia Go6800 PCI-E GPU in it, but other than noise and heat, it doesn't seem to affect performance.

I havent done the test yet

Just wanted to say I think this should be split in to Mac and PC on seperate threads. I also think a slightly different tests rather than the same one with ver4 as there are some pretty major differences in ver5.

Just a suggestion.

peedro,

hey. please if you could rename this thread. i'm currently formulating a new .als for the Live 5 performance test.

like the Live 4 performance test, the purpose is to compare machines to each other, not versions to each other. The Live 4 test added the new instruments that came with Live 4, and the .als i am formulating for the Live 5 Performance Test will add the new audio and midi devices, combined with Complex warping, and other cpu dependent features that have been added to the latest version etc. etc.

so please, if you could rename this thread to something like "live 4 test in live 5", as its not really a Live 5 Test, i would appreciate it.

and then i will start the new test and subsequent Live 5 Performance Test thread soon.

thanks.

ok, i've renamed the thread, you can go ahead with your new test adam, i hope i didn't upset you.

anyway, i think it's interesting (at least it was for me), to compare Live4 and Live5, so if ppl do this test, they are still welcome to post their results.

Thats a problem with the last part of a sample not being loaded into ram.
Most of the times. You will hear no difference.
But Ableton has been notified of this issue and are looking into it i think.

Cheers

Live 4: 65%-71%
Live 5: 63%-68%

Powerbook G4 1Gh
Ram: 1 Gb
Os: Tiger (10.4.2)
Audio Int.: M-audio FW 410
Ext HDD: LaCie D2 7200 - But I did not use it for this test.-

Waitting for the new one AJ, despite we already know the differences between computers, systems and so on...

Anyway, quite happy with this slighty improve on Live's permormance, at least on my computer...

Cheers ç:-)

Would it be worth doing a poll along the lines of

> 20% worse
> 10% worse
> 5% worse
0-5% worse
0-5% better
>5% better
etc etc

Just reading all the posts makes you lose track.
