Fried out the FW port on a TiBook 500 a few years ago, turned out it was mainly a problem with bus-powered devices, which was what I was using at the time. Other than that no trouble, the biggest precaution I take is to never have devices powered on when I dis/connect them, audio interface, drives, video capture card, whatever, be they self- or bus-powered. All said, Paddy's story of pulling out the redundant cable and getting a freeze is pretty scary, I always try avoid messing with stuff when there's large amounts of data flying down cables....something goes wrong and 9/10 times it's just your impatience that's fu**ed you up really.

I fried my first MOTU Traveller, unplugged too early while shutting down after a jam, the next day all that came out of it was *beeeep-click-beeeep-click*.

Thank god for 30 day exchange.

I don't hot plug anything now, learned my lesson.

Lets hear it for low grade computer equipment...

single handedly destroying consumer confidence for over 30 years.
