OS X users: What do you use for synthesis?

Hi All,

yes, OSX in a bit of a problem right now. The Thing is, Like me u prob. want to be able to 'record' these synths in LIVE...for that you need Rewire (unless you run i and out with hardware)

Unfortunately I think the only real offer there is REason, maybe cubase.

The reason demo will continue to run in Rewire, just don't click 'OK' when it tells you your 20mins is up....you can try it out there with the limited provided sounds.

Hopefully we will see some Rewired hosts soon.

I have been using Csound for all of my synth sounds but I have been learning it since August 2002. I will be learning how to use it for a long time but it is really helping me to understand how synths work and how to use them better.

Uhm, what do you expect? Rumblence:zoyd is not meant to be a granular synthesis device but for what it wants to be it already has quite a lot of features, don't you think?

But if you tell me what special interest you have in that grain stuff I'll happily try to build them in. A accompanying sampler device is planned anyway.

BTW a VSTi version for OS X and Win is in the works as well...

A simple app called RT Player is available as a demo from DSound http://www.dsound1.com The professional level product is quite pricy and includes some unnecessary hardware, but the demo works great as a free, simple VSTi host in Mac OS X. Check out Crystal 2 VSTi http://www.greenoak.com/vst.html as well as LinPlugs Albino (and of course freeAlpha) http://www.linplug.com. Just a couple of answers...

Whoa, Urs, no offense intended! I quite like Zoyd, and I think grain stuff would be overkill. It's great for lead sounds and such, so keep on rocking! GT Player looks like a fine stopgap solution to play with Crystal (which I had found elsewhere) for now. Thanks everyone for your suggestions! And Urs, really man, your synth owns!

you need a vst host for it, but I picked up Steinberg's new D'cota recenly, and it is pretty fat... great for evolving pads, etc...

runs under OS 9 or X...

I find it has a clarity akin to NI's FM7... that's one my faves on the OS 9 side, but a long way off for X...

Might want to check out Plex as well... the presets aren't as "rich" as D'cota's, but the sounds sit really well in a mix...

Both are unique kits... I'm enjoying having them (hell, ANYTHING!

under OS X...

Yeah, I watch my webstats and when I detect a new referrer, then it's often a forum...

Hmm. I've added a side chain/aux input anyway so I think I'll also build an oscillator model that does some granular mogrify on the inputs...

My latest versions have about 200 parameters, more than twice as much as it has in the preview version. Overkill already happens...

I've been playing with Applied Acoustics' Tassman 3 lately. It is an interesting synth modeling tool. Very much like Max/MSP, not as extensible, but offers many more connectivity options. Also seems to be easy on the CPU, which is nice.

Too bad that Live doesn't support VSTi... I'd love to work this program's sound into my music.

hi, i just thought i would say i am in the same boat as you, i think. i just bought live2, and am bored with moving samples about, so am looking for synthenasia.......reaktor4......waiting till april is along time what to do......i think i am going to investigate the live effects a bit more, read the manual so i can recite it backwards.....and buy the time reaktor4 comes into my world i will have more time for it......having known what there is to know about live2, i suppose you call study, nice study though.
