I like my Fender P bass patched through a cheap little DOD FX25 pedal. I turn the settings down and it lets only the deepest bottom end through with such force it makes my teeth rattle. That was a little trick I got from Bill Laswell. Deep and dubby. It's also fun to patch it through my Mogue Rogue. That gives quite a sound too!

I'm really liking the Photone synth from NI Electronic Instruments 2 XT, can't say I've compared it to anything else but it's sounding good to me.

Yeah, I got one off of ebay not too long ago. If you get one make sure that it is the earlier model. the modernized version doesn't sound the same at all. You should be able to find one for about $25.

synth1 is free and pretty good. also, dont forget oddity..

i use a real bass guitar (fretless), sounds really good. well worth it, bass guitars are not that difficult to play - better than playing bass notes on a midi keyboard and much more expressive. its difficult to do things like slides with midi.

I like ravity VST a lot for bass

I recently got a used Roland MVS1 Vintage Synth external sound module

nothing beats hardware for bass

of course I have to use an external compressor (ART VLA)

It's really easy to use with Live too

I like a nice PBass or 5 string Musicman too. through a podxt... tons of compression!!
