I really like what has been done with cool edit. Audition is very intuitive. The thing is that I have been using Wavelab for so long that I tend to default to it. I guess it's use the tools you know rather than the ones you like for me in this case. Wavelab is pretty powerful though.

If they would just hurry up and port Live to Linux, then it would run on the same platform as my fave wave editor: Rezound.
http://rezound.sf.net in case any Linux users want to check it.
It's got just the feature set I need without a bunch of complications that just get in my way. Open wav, cut, splice, norm, balance, DC, save, done.
I guess it does other stuff too but it doesn't slow me down.
Audacity has this "project" concept that makes me crazy and the mouse selection/workflow is bad.
Ramble ramble ramble..

Wavelab 5.0, the best all inclusive package that I've used, includes surround editing and mastering too.

The ony thing I miss about PCs (after going Mac) is Sound Forge. Bias Peak is good but SF yaks all over it from a great height.

Dan

p.s: anyone know if Virtual PC runs SF well under OSX? Especially considering you'd have VPC running at the same time as Logic / ProTools etc. whatever?

SF is good Wavelab better but twice the price and it has unsolved issue of burner support ( if you have new model you f...d just like me I use Wavelab since years but will go for something else, or hav to wait few month or years to be able to use burning) shame. Auditon is great for the money too. The best deal is definitely Samplitude, there are some internet deals for 260 Euro, Master version, regular, multitrack versions go for grand or few more. Samplitude, Sequoia are widely used in pro studios, radio, TV etc. Most intelligent UI. So less then Wavelab and probably the best mastering software for the money.

Try Soundtrack Pro ?

You get all Logic Pro's effects, including the convolution reverb (Space Designer)

Thanks but it does not, Steinberg "latest means few months old", their support is the worst in the industry. That is why I warn potential buyers. They have this CD burning shit going for past 5 years!!! Charging so much money for the software and unable to do simple fix, 90% of posts on Steinberg net are about this problem. So if you have a newest hardware you may have to wait months or more till they upgrade that burner/driver tool

Definitely Adobe Audition here. I tried the three big Windows ones (Wavelab, SF and AA) as well as the freebies, Goldwave, etc...

Adobe Audition wins imho because of the following:

* 128 track audio recording/mixing
* frequency spectrum analysis (which is not in the others, but which allows you to apply effects to specific frequencies, or for example cut out an audience cough without affecting any other frequencies - very powerful and useful!)
* its the best for noise reduction
* the included effects are the best of the three
* it costs half the price of Wavelab, and at the time I researched/purchased it, SF didn't host VST effects (Audition does)

I find Audition superb for audio recording, editing, mixing and mastering. While I prefer Ableton Live for all round music creation and sequencing, but always revert to Audition for editing audio and mastering my finished tracks.
