Neodynium, Equim and Hydratone are my most-used comp + EQs. I also use the Logic channel EQ sometimes.. Live's EQ and compressors have never really done it for me.
I'm also watching the URS compressor plugs carefully... though they are expensive (but if they sounds like they should do they could be well worth it....).
If URS doesn't meet the grade for the price, I'll shoot for the Sonalksys compressor too to give myself a nice range.

Hi,
jusr registered. Interesting. Yeah I'd also like to buy a good combi. Heard that the PSP Vintage Warmer is incredible.
What about hydratone? Some sday it isn't such a good tool. The idea is phenomenal, and I also heard good things about it. Will try it!
Has anyone downloaded the free SSL Combressor LMC1? You just have to register there and order it! It is totally free. and it sounds better than a lot of tools I tried.

I like the Live EQ. It does what I need it to do very well. The internal compressor is pretty bangin too.
I like to run my stuff outboard through an FMR Audio Really Nice Compressor. It's tha shizzle... and cheap too!

Sonalksis SV series EQ and Comp
i still use Hydratone, but not for normal EQ duties, more for tonal work.
the Sonalksis plugs are totally rocking my world right now.

I like to use Buzzroom GeneComp3 and Nyquist EQ.
Mostly because they are free.
But.......I'm pretty happy with them.

The SSL is incredible. Sorry, just donwload and play with it. In the beginning it was hard to understand how to use it, but after that it rocks.
Heard very much about the other things!
At all I think, the following results from lots of threads I read:
Hydratone is the number one or some people, others say it sounds bad.
Waves plugs are not as good as their price is high.
URS plug ins are solid and of a good quality.
The UAD and it's plugs rock the cpu! They are the best software solutions. But if a PCI card is not possible for u, it can't help u.
At al it seems that if you want a fat sound, ypu'll have to buy an analog summing tool (audient sumo for example), an analog compressor and eq and you will be the winner unless you are working in 192 KHz.
Made a workshop in a masteringstudio and found out that analoglike results can only be reached at 352,8 KHz. Everything less high sounds very different to the analog source.
If you like to see some charts about that, and for the reason this happens take a walk to:
http://www.digitalaudio.dk/axion.htm
By the way: This is the best AD/DA converter I have heard so far.

^Excellent Comp for the money. $200 and you get what sounds like a $2,400 comp. They've got a cool little Pre to.
For Mac, the best thing I've heard is the Metric Halo Channel strip.
For PC, gotta hand it to the UAD stuff. Otherwise, the usual suspects already mentioned here.
