Best plug in bundle for under $1,500

I would go for one UAD-1 dsp-card solution, or the TC PoCo-platform. I run UAD-1 myself, with Reason 3 (in Live 5.x, with Kontakt, Intakt, Absynth, Reaktor etc.), and would prior the UAD-1 card if I had to.

Sorry. I've gone back to basics lately, but in the virtual realm, NI Komplete with Reaktor 5 is the only ticket in town.

I would LOVE to have my own drum set. Sadly, my neighbours would not enjoy it, so I am forced to find ways around it.

I'm not big on N.I, although I do love Spektral Delay.

get a v-drums kit. Thats what I have, and I tell ya, everyone is always talking about the best controler for live. Nothing beats an electronic set as a controller.

Stylus RMX lets you import your own REX files. Its not limited to just the libraries they offer, FYI.

Well, that got me focused on my next upgrade: Does anyone know the prizing of a good V-drum set, like Ddrum, Roland V-drums, and doesn't Clavia got a set or two, too (what about "Drum Workshop" - they should have at least a set or two..?) -And if there exists some I have missed out here, I'll be very happy to know about those!
I tend to buy second-hand, tho, since it's extreme prizing from the muz-shops around here in Norway - and that's the main reason I ask you folks about this. The set must contain the basics, like a 5-6 piece-kit, and I'll be happy enough for a good while. And my neighbours can't complain anymore

no one mentioned NI Komplete??

I am Extremely happy with NI Komplete 2 - an amazing bundle - and as someone else mentioned the library for reaktor is huge and there is some really impressive stuff there.

I only have R4 with my Komplete 2 but it's still pretty impressive, but absynth, fm7 and pro-53 are fantastic synths, vokator is weird to use but can sound awesome, and if you ever want good organs you can go past B4

I got the special prelaunch Komplete 2 for a good price and what I got for that is astounding if you compare it to real hardware versions which imo dont particularly any better

This is all really subjective and my best advice would be to dig into some demos, however, I'll give you some IMHOs to chew on:

Minimonsta – fat, warm, beautiful sound, terrific bass and lead instrument.
MOTU MX4 – excellent wavetable/subtractive synth, the mod possibilities are nothing short of staggering and can really bring your sounds alive, should also mention you get 2 versions of the wavetables, 1 digital and 1 band-limited and the digital can give you some wonderful grit.
AAS Ultra Analog – great analogish sound, simple set of options.
AAS String Studio – nice for exotic and expressive sounds.
FabFilter One – ultra simple, low cpu, extremely nice filter, great for layering.
Filterscape – great sound, unique options, good value as it comes with 2 fx plugs
Automat – addictive little synth that sounds super, free
Zebra2 – will be released within a month or so, check some of the mp3 examples, it is going to be killer.
Operator – integration with Live is very nice.
Reaktor – can do some very cool things, but sometimes the size and scope of it are overwhelming.
Kontakt – a nice sampler and the baby VSL may be worth the price of admission.

Stylus RMX – you may not like a lot of their canned loops but the 10K single hits make it a pretty nice drum sound module, import of rex opens up a whole new world, specially with pitched material, great fx, don’t forget to use edit groups – another key to using this in creative ways.
Microtonic – the only drum synth you’ll ever need
RMIV – a decent alternative to Battery, integrated synth and pretty good acoustic samples.

PSP 42/84/Nitro/608 – nice fx plugs.
Filterscape – some very cool fx, unique approach.
Volcano – gorgeous filter fx.
Camel PhatSpace – great fx bundle does distortion, compression, filter fx, gate fx, delay etc etc

not at all, your octapad is the perfect v-drum/live companion for recording/triggering loops.

I have mine integrated into my v-drums set.

I have a pintech set that uses the roland v-drum mesh head (licenced from roland). 14" metal piccalo snare with a real v-drum head.

They are about half the price of hte roland heads, and are quite a bit better imho.

I picked up my kit used (snare, 3 toms, hh, cymbols, 2 kicks, td-8 and a roland pa7? drum amp (so it can be a self contained kit) for $900 US.

Add the octapad, run 1 output of hte td-8 into my traveler, and set the 8 octapad pads up to record/trigger 8 different loops.

I even have a pad set to tap tempo, so I can set the temoo.

So, ill sit at the drumset and bang away. When I find a groove I like, I tap out the tempo on the tempo pad, which starts lives clock. play the groove, then half a beat before the end, hit one of the octapad pads, play 16 bars of the groove, half a beat hit the octapad to end the loop recording.

its a pretty sick setup. hardest part is playing to a click.

Im pretty happy with komplete 2, komplete 3 just came out or is about to. Its under 1500 and you get a fuckton of instruments. Thats my bread and butter that I use with live.
