well to make a long thread short. All you need to do is convert all your Mp3's to WAV and there you have it. Problem free, extreamly quick loading of any track and as well the inital warping of the track is way faster due to the conversion not being there.

no, its not a decision for the problem, for example, what if i want to work most with mp3s cause i dont have a rubber hard drive? Why should i convert to wav? i want mp3s!!!

Well it seems that i just wasted the last two full work days  This is a major problem. There should be a LARGE warning here in the forum reguarding this as people like me and others are wasting there time.

Hi guys,

Please have a look to that thread for a better understanding of the decoding process and the cache usage:
http://www.ableton.com/forum/viewtopic. ... highlight=

Then, the problem of the disappearing warp markers could be as simple as that: When you open the mp3, Live decodes it in the cache, then adds warp markers. That is saved as the asd file along with the mp3, which is the desired behaviour. But then, if you edit manually warp markers, you HAVE to hit the save button in the clip view in order to update the asd file, in short to save your work in the asd. It is not automatic.
Do I miss something here ?

Cheers,
amo

Same problem here and I ALWAYS hit the save button.
This occurs only on certain files when you move them to another folder.

Really shitty bug.

BTW, the only workaround I found to this problem is to render the track to a .wav file inmediatly after warping the .mp3 file.

Then you can use the new .wav file instead, without having to warp again.

This is a real serious BUG and a total waste of time. I can't believe that Ableton guys had released a product with such obvious defect...

You guys...Lets be real for a second...

This problem is something that is here and not going away any time soon..

When you warp your mp3's live makes a WAV file in the cache without your choice. Live ONLY WILL WORK WITH WAV'S. It will take your Mp3's and let you drag them over and warp them but it will NOT keep playing them after you have saved them. Live looks for the WAV it made in the cache and uses that file. It will NOT play back MP3 files, you can warp MP3's but not play them back. THE ONLY THING TO DO IS TO USE WAV FILES NOTHING GOES INTO THE CACHE AND NOTHING GETS DELETED BY IT'S SELF. I learned the hard way so please do not be upset encode your mp3's to wav and get a bigger hard drive. Simple...also you will be amazed on how fast the wav's warp due to they are not encoding from mp3 to wav the whole time. Plus your files can be moved and not lost also they are loaded way way way way faster due to it does not have to load it from the cache file. cheers...

Hello,

There was once a bug, in Live 5.0.3, I think, that made mp3 files loose their reference asd file because the decoder was adding a bit of silence at the beginning of track, but nowadays, this is over.

On the PC, you should install Quicktime player. Then you can warp your mp3 files, save the warp info of course, and everything should be fine. Move the corresponding asd file when you move an mp3 file around, or better, do that using the Live Browser (so the asd file is moved along automatically).

Regards,
Amaury

This may be "totally out there"...

Ever considered to save warped mp3's in a self-contained .als file?
Files broken? Use the project manager. Problem fixed.

Kinda silly to complain about losing days of work without taking a second to back it up.

Quicktime player fixes this? I have Live6.0.3 with this problem happening. I'll test this out later. Thanks.

The files are warped fine and still in place on my desktop in this situation, the waste of time is due to the fact that I need them on my laptop. I just use all waves now to avoid any anoying problems. That and hard drives are cheap now anyway.

Hi,

Yes and no. A problem can occur when using the Windows default decoder, both at the time when you warp the tracks, and when you decode the tracks. Direct Show (it's the name of the default Windows codec) can 'add' a bit of silence to a track, at its beginning or its end. It is more a problem with VBR tracks.

So, the safest bet is to first install Quicktime, and then start warping your tracks. After that, make sure Quicktime is installed on the computer you use to decode the files and play them, and all should be fine.

Amaury
